Speaking to People in a new interview, the Emmy-winning Sh\u014dgun<\/a> actress said it was \u201cexciting\u201d to portray the Japanese artist, whose marriage to co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist John Lennon<\/a> catapulted her into another stratosphere of fame.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just exciting because her story is so inspirational to me, and people really don\u2019t know the true person that she was,\u201d Sawai explained.<\/p>\n

The Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star continued, \u201cShe\u2019s an incredible artist. And also, she just was an independent woman and people didn\u2019t like that. They wanted John for themselves and she was an easy target. And I think it\u2019s very meaningful for me to be able to tell her story.\u201d<\/p>\n
