After \u201cOne Battle After Another<\/a>\u201d claimed the BAFTA for best film on Sunday night, director Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> had a simple message for critics of modern cinema.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnybody that says movies aren\u2019t any good anymore should piss right off,\u201d Anderson<\/a>, who both wrote and directed the action thriller, said to cheers and laughter. \u201cI want to say thank you, and I know that there\u2019s a bar somewhere, I think we should all go there. It\u2019s been a long evening, but we have so much to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anderson ended his speech by sharing a quote from pianist, singer and activist Nina Simone<\/a> that he admitted \u201cwe stole in our film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe says, \u2018I know what freedom is, it\u2019s no fear,’\u201d Anderson said. \u201cSo let\u2019s keep making things without fear. It\u2019s a good idea. See ya at the bar!\u201d<\/p>\n
