The highlights from Lewis\u2019 special day came shortly after CBS\u2019<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/matlocks-david-del-rio-remains-fired-after-new-sexual-assault-investigation\/\"> supplemental investigation concluded<\/a> with the network standing by their original decision to dismiss Del Rio, 38, from the show.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainment Weekly confirmed on Friday, February 20, that the investigation was completed, with the network declining to comment on the matter due to a company policy of not addressing legal matters.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption \">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:66.7%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">Sonja Flemming\/CBS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>News broke in October 2025 that Del Rio was fired following an investigation after Lewis accused Del Rio of allegedly assaulting her one month prior. Days later, Lewis reported the incident to CBS and Del Rio <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/matlock-season-2-fall-finale-ending-explained-after-julian-twist\/\">was removed from the set.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Matlock<\/em> was on hiatus from filming at the time and the cast hadn\u2019t returned until December 2025. After the investigation was made public, Lewis broke her silence by sharing a photo with her mother from set.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom is here, we\u2019re moving forward in love and strength. I\u2019m in good hands,\u201d she wrote via Instagram in October. \u201cThank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we\u2019re moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Please, let that be the take away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Del Rio <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/how-matlock-season-2-fall-finale-wrote-off-david-del-rios-billy-after-scandal\/\">has yet to address the scandal<\/a> while his wife,<strong> Katherine Del Rio<\/strong>, posted Instagram Stories calling Lewis a \u201cdisturbing human being\u201d before deleting them hours later. David was written off in the midseason finale when his character, Billy, found out his girlfriend had a miscarriage.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Matlock creator <strong>Jennie Snyder Urman<\/strong> addressed the speculation that a new cast member will be replacing Billy. Urman specifically weighed in on Sarah Wright Olsen and Henry Haber joining the season 2 cast with Wright Olsen playing Gwen, who is described as \u201can efficiency expert analyzing the firm\u201d while Haber, 23, is Hunter a.k.a \u201ca younger associate from the floater pool who is a total bro.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to discuss details, but what I can talk about is in terms of the show,\u201d Urman told Deadline in December 2025 about whether Haber is joining Matlock as a \u201creplacement\u201d for David. \u201cThe last episode you see [Billy] is in 7, and then you find out how Billy\u2019s story ends, which is in a very organic way that has to do with our whole office and how things are being shaped in this merger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Urman teased how Hunter <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/how-matlock-will-change-in-season-2-after-shocking-reveal\/\">fits into the equation<\/a>, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re always bringing in new associates, new people, because we want to give our characters different energies to react to, and different obstacles to overcome.
