Episode 7, \u201cThe Day<\/a>,\u201d is the worst thing that could\u2019ve happened to \u201cParadise<\/a>.\u201d You remember \u201cThe Day<\/a>,\u201d don\u2019t you? It\u2019s Season 1\u2019s penultimate flashback episode; the one that jumps back in time to show exactly what went down when a volcano erupted, billions of people died, and a lucky few \u2014 notably secret service agent Xavier Collins<\/a> (Sterling K. Brown<\/a>) and his charge, Cal Bradford (James Marsden<\/a>), the president of the United States \u2014 escaped to an underground bunker in Colorado. It\u2019s the episode everyone loves, or at least what everyone recognizes as \u201cserious,\u201d which is too often conflated with \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The main problem is that \u201cParadise<\/a>\u201d isn\u2019t a serious show. It\u2019s a goofy show. It\u2019s a show in which our hero\u2019s name (Xavier) is a mumbled letter away from \u201csavior.\u201d It\u2019s a show that won\u2019t stop referencing \u201cDie Hard<\/a>\u201d while trying to…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
