More recently, Doran composed the soundtrack for the meditative video game <em>\u2018SEASON: A letter to the future\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Their new album is inspired by<em> \u201csparse hyperreal representations of the natural world\u201d<\/em> and features the likes of French composer F\u00e9licia Atkinson, Romanian composer \/ violinist Ioana Selaru, as well as the duo\u2019s previous collaborators Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano.<\/p>\n<p>Doran describes the music of <em>\u2018Paradessence\u2019 <\/em>as an attempt to capture organic, shifting forms: \u201c<em>Instead of creating pieces that function horizontally as environments, we wanted to conceptualize them as living material changing in space, continually in flux\u201d<\/em>. He also references the concept of <em>\u201cslippage between the real and the virtual [that] captures something else entirely, something strange and ineffable that is an inherent aspect of life in digital modernity, both online and in real life\u201d<\/em>. The album\u2019s title was inspired by author Alex Shakar\u2019s portmanteau of the words<em> \u2018paradoxical\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018essence\u2019<\/em> to explore the idea of satisfying multiple contradictory desires.<\/p>\n<p>The duo have shared a video for the album\u2019s lead single <em>\u2018Disque\u2019<\/em>. The track features the artist Motion Graphics on <em>\u201csynthetic woodwinds\u201d<\/em>, and the video was made with UK-based photogrammetrist Grade Eterna, who used 3D scanning tools to generate a virtual model of a London greenhouse. It\u2019s a cerebral, futuristic, and beautifully serene vision; music for daydreamers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Paradessence\u2019 <\/em>is out May 22nd via RVNG Intl.
