Robert De Niro<\/span><\/a> has made<\/a><\/span> no secret<\/a> about what he thinks<\/span> of President <\/span>Donald Trump<\/span><\/a>, but he got very emotional about the state of the U.S. under Trump during an interview with MS NOW\u2019s<\/span> Nicolle Wallace<\/span><\/a> on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it\u2019s sick, it\u2019s fucked up,\u201d De Niro said<\/a>. \u201cWe have to save this country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Toward the end of the interview, De Niro seemed on the verge of tears when Wallace asked him why he makes a point of thanking the people who work for him at awards shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYou have to \u2014 you have to lift people up,\u201d the actor said, with his voice starting to crack, before explaining, \u201cYou have to bring them together. You can\u2019t divide people, you can\u2019t win that way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Things got emotional as De Niro pivoted back to discussing Trump\u2019s divisive presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a no-win situation, and look what we have, look who we have there, it\u2019s almost like a destiny to have this thing there, destroying\u2026 attempting to destroy this country and maybe not even understanding why. So it\u2019s up to us to protect the country,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
