Late last year, Bon Iver<\/a>\u2018s Justin Vernon said that he\u2019d be \u201cvery surprised\u201d if he ever made another album<\/a>. Well, it may not be a new Bon Iver album, but Vernon does<\/em> have a new release on the way.<\/p>\n Technically speaking, VOLUMES<\/em> isn\u2019t a new album; instead, it\u2019s the start of an archival series that includes \u201clive shows, demos, unreleased recordings, and other previously unheard material\u201d meant to explore the \u201cmany eras and multitudes that make up \u2018Bon Iver.’\u201d Due out April 3rd via Jagjaguwar, VOLUMES: ONE \u201cSELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023 BON IVER 6 PIECE BAND\u201d<\/em> assembles 11 performances that find the collective at their \u201cwildest, warmest and most muscular whole.\u201d<\/p>\n Or, as Vernon put it in a statement, \u201cThis particular set of 10 songs is like, \u2018Here, if you\u2019ve never heard Bon Iver, or you have and you didn\u2019t like it, this might be for you. This is what we became. This is really us at our best. This is it.\u201d<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n The band not only includes Vernon but Andrew Fitzpatrick, Flock of Dimes\u2019 Jenn Wasner, Matthew McCaughan, Michael Lewis, and Sean Carey. Together, the collective have forged what a press release called \u201ca time capsule,\u201d and what was further described as a \u201cprismatic look at an old friend, seeing them for who they were and who they are, all the goodness of which they\u2019re capable but maybe too shy to show at times.\u201d This collective seemingly had quite the effect on Vernon, and during their final shows behind 2019\u2019s <\/em>i,i<\/em> back in 2023, he shared the following note:<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that I\u2019ve been with friends, not just work buddies. And the fact that we\u2019ve traveled all over the world together, while we all did our jobs at the highest levels possible. We crushed this shit as hard as anybody has ever crushed anything. I\u2019m so deeply proud to be a part of Us.\u201d<\/p>\n VOLUMES: ONE <\/em>not only focuses on music from of 2016\u2019s 22, A Million<\/em> and the aforementioned i,i<\/em> but three other important pieces: the \u201cCOVID-era hymnal\u201d titled \u201cP.D.L.I.F.\u201d; a cover of Mahalia Jackson\u2019s \u201cA SATISFIED MIND\u201d; and \u201cHEAVENLY FATHER,\u201d which Vernon has unveiled as part of today\u2019s announcement.
