John Mellencamp<\/a><\/strong>has accomplished a lot in his career. He\u2019s gone to the top of the Billboard <\/em>Hot 100, had a No. 1 album with 1982\u2019s American Fool<\/em><\/a>, sold millions of records, traveled around the world<\/a>, and even won a Grammy award\u2026<\/p>\n \u2026not like that last one means anything to him. When recently appearing on Bill Maher<\/strong>\u2019s Club Random<\/a><\/em>podcast, Mellencamp, 74, shrugged off the Grammys<\/a> and the whole notion of award shows.<\/p>\n \u201cI have never been to the Grammys in my life,\u201d said Mellencamp, per Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a><\/em>. John won the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance award in 1983 for \u201cHurts So Good,\u201d and has since been nominated more than a dozen times.<\/p>\n When Maher, 70, brought up how he skipped out on this year\u2019s Golden Globes<\/a>, Mellencamp said, \u201cDo you know what a Golden Globe is or a Grammy? It\u2019s f\u2014king nothing. It means nothing. It means less than nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Mellencamp did admit his appreciation for the Grammy Museum, which has locations in Los Angeles, Nashville, and Cleveland, Mississippi.<\/p>\n Mellencamp won the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at the 25th Annual Grammy Awards<\/a>, the same ceremony where he was nominated for Album of the Year (American Fool<\/em>) and Producer of the Year. At the 27th Annual Grammy Awards in 1985, Mellencamp\u2019s \u201cPink Houses\u201d was up for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The following year, he was nominated in the category again for \u201cScarecrow.\u201d<\/p>\n In 1988, Mellencamp was up for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. In \u201989, Mellencamp\u2019s \u201cCheck It Out\u201d video was nominated for Best Performance Music Video. At the 34th Annual Grammy Awards in 1992, Mellencamp was up for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for his album, Whenever We Wanted<\/em>.<\/p>\n Mellencamp\u2019s 1994 collaboration with Me\u2019Shell Ndegeocello, <\/strong>\u201cWild Night,\u201d was nominated for the inaugural Best Pop Vocal Collaboration (with Vocal) category at the 37th Grammy Awards, losing to Al Green <\/strong>and Lyle Lovett<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cFunny How Time Slips Away.\u201d<\/p>\n His \u201cKey West Intermezzo (I Saw You First)\u201d scored him a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance nod at the 39th Grammys. He went back-to-back with Best Male Rock Vocal Performances at the 40th and 41st Grammys, with \u201cJust Another Day\u201d and \u201cYour Life Is Now,\u201d respectively. Mellencamp\u2019s most recent nominations were in 2002 (Best Male Rock Performance, \u201cPeaceful World\u201d) and 2008 (Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, \u201cOur Country\u201d).<\/p>\n Mellencamp is not one to hold his tongue. At the start of the month, Mellencamp appeared on an episode of Real Time With Bill Maher<\/em>, and dismissed his song \u201cR.O.C.K.
