John Davidson<\/a>, the Scottish Tourette\u2019s syndrome activist and real-life inspiration for \u201cI Swear<\/a>,\u201d was thrust into the spotlight at the 79th BAFTA Awards when his involuntary vocal tics disrupted the ceremony, including an outburst of racial slurs that occurred as \u201cSinners<\/a>\u201d stars Michael B. Jordan<\/a> and Delroy Lindo<\/a> presented an award. In an exclusive email interview with Variety, Davidson<\/a> offers his perspective on what happened, including what precautions and guardrails he had expected the BBC<\/a> and BAFTA to take before he attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Since the fallout, Davidson\u2019s team shares that he\u2019s reached out to the studio handling \u201cSinners<\/a>\u201d in order to directly apologize to Jordan, Lindo<\/a> and production designer Hannah Beacher.<\/p>\n
