The \u201c13 Going on 30\u201d star shed light on the inner workings of their family when asked on Bustle\u2019s \u201cOne Nightstand\u201d YouTube show how she strikes a balance in parenting their three kids, Violet, 20; Seraphina, 17; and Samuel, 13.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially when your kids grow up in two separate households, I become mom and dad; he becomes dad and mom,\u201d Garner explained, referring to Affleck.<\/p>\n
Garner said that such a dynamic, which has ultimately made her learn to \u201clet go,\u201d feels inevitable when \u201cyou don\u2019t have the benefit of both sides, the yin and yang\u201d being under one roof.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you have to have a bit of both in the way that you parent,\u201d she continued. \u201cThere\u2019s a little bit of loss in that, but there\u2019s also something gained in that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Garner and Affleck, both 53, wed in 2005 and parted ways a decade later<\/a>, finalizing their divorce in 2018.
