Sof\u00eda Alfonso Gait\u00e1n from the embassy\u2019s Culture, Education and International Cooperation section noted that many participants in K-pop competitions later apply for scholarships to study abroad, turning dance covers into long-term aspirations.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkonuq7x001a3b6sd14xgqnr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On the rooftop of the Plaza Claro shopping mall, members of the all-male group Double Blade rehearse formations against the city skyline, drawing curious onlookers. Similar scenes play out across the city, where public space has become an essential part of the K-pop dance culture.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml72z4pw000v356pavryfcyb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re a very new group, less than six months together, and we\u2019re already competing with groups that have many years of experience,\u201d said Leonardo G\u00f3mez, also known by his stage name Drako, the leader of Double Blade. \u201cI feel very proud of my group because they are very hardworking people.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkn7jb7p0008356p94fkkgle@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For many dancers across the world, K-pop became more than a hobby during the pandemic years. With studios closed and events canceled, social media became their stage and community.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml72zzlg0010356pmnh6u6oy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think K-pop is getting really popular in Colombia because after the pandemic, a lot of things changed and the K-pop wave grew a lot,\u201d said Juan Pablo Garc\u00eda or Jwamp, a member of Double Blade. \u201cThe dance community became a very important foundation for K-pop to grow here.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml72zzlg0011356pci0ttbqv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Others say the genre\u2019s appeal goes beyond catchy songs or difficult choreography.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml72zzlg0012356psyt73kfg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt\u2019s not just the music or the dance, it\u2019s the whole K-pop system that helped it grow in Colombia,\u201d said Jorge David Galviz or Danny, another member of Double Blade. \u201cThe people who built the community and created bonds were the foundation of this culture here.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkn7k289000l356ptu614xuv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Members of Empire say they are aware of stereotypes that sometimes surround K-pop, especially the idea that it shouldn\u2019t be taken seriously, but they push back against that perception.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml730fc50016356p78d1vmoa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThere\u2019s a stigma that K-pop isn\u2019t taken seriously,\u201d said Juliana Le\u00f3n Monroy, member of Empire. \u201cBut we treat it like any other form of art.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml730fc50017356pd8swd377@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some dancers say they\u2019ve also been encouraged by seeing Latin artists gain visibility within the K-pop industry itself. One example they point to is Santos Bravos, a Latin boy group developed under BTS\u2019s label HYBE as part of a broader push to expand K-pop\u2019s global reach.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cml730fc60018356px69fnsqb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cSeeing groups like Santos Bravos makes a difference,\u201d one dancer said. \u201cIt shows that there\u2019s space for Latin artists in this world too.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmljqm8qg0000356pvh6eyk58@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Alongside them is global girl group KATSEYE, whose Grammy nomination this year drew new attention to how K-pop\u2013trained acts are breaking into the global mainstream.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmljqmjye0005356p020f216n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Both groups will also perform at the 15th edition of Festival Est\u00e9reo Picnic in Bogot\u00e1 in March of this year. The festival, one of the largest music events in Latin America, headlined by Tyler The Creator and Sabrina Carpenter, is known for bringing together international and Latin artists across genres.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkn7jq3q000h356p534gwf0r@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Latin America\u2019s importance within K-pop\u2019s global expansion is becoming increasingly clear.
