{"id":2300133,"date":"2026-02-25T22:21:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T22:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2300133"},"modified":"2026-02-25T22:21:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T22:21:27","slug":"nexstar-lays-off-local-tv-journalists-including-glen-walker-lu-parker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/nexstar-lays-off-local-tv-journalists-including-glen-walker-lu-parker\/","title":{"rendered":"Nexstar lays off local TV journalists including Glen Walker, Lu Parker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-element=\"story-body\" data-subscriber-content=\"\">\n<p>Nexstar Media Group is slashing personnel from its TV stations, including several on-air veterans at Los Angeles outlet KTLA.<\/p>\n<p>Glen Walker and Lu Parker, anchors of KTLA\u2019s late morning and midday newscasts, are out along with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2024-05-29\/ktla-weatherman-mark-kriski-mild-stroke-sam-rubin-death\">meteorologist Mark Kriski<\/a>, according to people briefed on the moves not authorized to speak publicly. <\/p>\n<p>Kriski had been with KTLA since 1991, while Walker has been at the station\u2019s anchor desk since 2010. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-2010-oct-21-la-et-lu-parker-20101022-story.html\">Parker<\/a> joined KTLA in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for Nexstar said the company does not comment on personnel issues, adding it is \u201ctaking steps necessary to compete effectively in this period of unprecedented change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs are part of a company-wide cost reduction across Nexstar\u2019s stations. The Irving, Texas-based  media giant, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-08-19\/nexstar-agrees-to-acquire-tegna-in-a-major-tv-station-group-deal\">which recently agreed to a $6.2-billion merger <\/a>with station group Tegna, is looking for savings as traditional TV viewing declines and puts pressure on ad revenue as consumers continue to move to video-streaming platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Television station groups have been lobbying the government to lift restrictions that limit them to 39% coverage of U.S households. They say lifting the cap will enable them to better compete with technology companies that have no such restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Nexstar is the largest TV station ownership group in the U.S. It also operates the cable network <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-12-15\/conservative-politcal-analyst-katie-pavlich-joins-newsnation-for-new-prime-time-show\">NewsNation<\/a>, which has been slow to make significant inroads against established channels celebrity.land, Fox News and MSNBC since it launched in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Nexstar has been chipping away at the staff of its Chicago station WGN, which produces 12 hours of local news daily. A total of 21 people have been cut in recent weeks, including nine reporters and anchors on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Known locally as \u201cChicago\u2019s Very Own,\u201d WGN has long been a source of civic pride in the city.
