Neve Campbell helped cement the \u201cScream\u201d franchise\u2019s legacy in the horror genre, which is why stepping away<\/a> from the sixth movie was a difficult decision. <\/p>\n But it\u2019s one the actor stands by, she told \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d<\/a> on Tuesday, adding that she \u201cdidn\u2019t think I could live with myself walking on set.\u201d <\/p>\n Campbell, the original \u201cScream\u201d queen, declined to return for the sixth film following a pay dispute<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cI just didn\u2019t feel right. I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered,\u201d Campbell told the morning show. \u201cFor me, I needed to make that choice.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the actor is now back<\/a> for \u201cScream 7\u201d<\/a> after securing a nearly $7-million deal, according to Variety.<\/a> <\/p>\n The seventh installment is expected to open to a franchise-high $45 million to $50 million in North America this weekend, according to Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n But the film\u2019s journey to the big screen wasn\u2019t easy. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega led the sixth movie in lieu of Campbell, both of whom subsequently left the franchise in 2023. Director Christopher Landon also exited the movie<\/a> shortly after. <\/p>\n Barrera was fired<\/a> from the seventh film in late 2023 after sharing on social media pro-Palestinian statements regarding the Israel-Hamas war. Ortega then exited the film<\/a>, citing her conflicting filming schedule for Netflix\u2019s \u201cWednesday.\u201d<\/p>\n In \u201cScream 7,\u201d Sidney Prescott is now a mom living a quiet family life; a \u201cpretty bold choice\u201d for the character, Campbell told \u201cCBS Mornings,\u201d \u201cconsidering what happens to most of the people she loves, but she\u2019s decided not to let her past dictate the way she\u2019s going to live her life now.\u201d<\/p>\n
