\u201cSo when you think about that, how do you\u00a0activate the area,\u00a0provide those food and beverage opportunities and also maybe a little bit of retail, maybe some housing opportunities in that area for those people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The school is now in the second of three phases, unveiling four prospective concepts for a fan-oriented entertainment hub.<\/p>\n
The goal is to reimagine a connection for the South Campus to the other areas, building a stronger sense of community.<\/p>\n
Locke\u00a0said, \u201cThe linear connector is\u00a0along\u00a0University Drive,\u00a0which he described as\u00a0the main frontage of this development,\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0explained. \u201cAnd then going back to the Cooper connector,\u00a0that\u2019s along\u00a0Cooper Drive\u00a0and represents another key piece of the development, allowing\u00a0you\u2019re phasing this from a north to south standpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said his team is looking into similar cities and university sites while working to keep their plans authentic to\u00a0UK and Lexington.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t want to just turn\u00a0the project\u00a0over to a developer and say, \u2018Hey, you guys go for it,\u2019 and you end up with something that is not unique and beneficial for the University of Kentucky and the city,\u201d Locke said.<\/p>\n
Phase two will wrap by mid-spring, and phase three of the development and planning process for the fan experience is expected to wrap by the end of June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
