Hilary Duff<\/strong> <\/a>might have had fans clutching their pearls over the racy lyrics in her song \u201cRoommates,\u201d but she isn\u2019t bothered by the criticism.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not making music for my kids. I\u2019m not making music for 7-year-olds,\u201d Duff, 38, said in a Wednesday, February 25, appearance on the \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m making music for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duff, who is a mom of four, dropped her latest album, Luck \u2026 Or Something, <\/i>on Friday,\u00a0 February 20, featuring the single \u201cRoommates\u201d and its references to \u201ctouching myself\u201d while \u201clooking at porn.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m making music for people like myself,\u201d Duff told podcast host Alex Cooper<\/strong>. \u201cI was singing crazy lyrics when I was young, too, that I had no idea what they meant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duff rose to fame as a child star, pursuing both acting and music. During her early years in the limelight, she was also frequently asked about her virginity, sexuality and star-studded romances.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it impacted my relationship with sex, but I think it\u2019s just been another one of those things that comes along with my career that I didn\u2019t really ask for and had to learn how to just accept,\u201d the Lizzie McGuire <\/i>alum recalled. \u201cIt was really hard as a young girl because I was coined \u2018the good girl.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Duff continued, \u201cHaving to label someone and then do everything they could to try to poke holes in that label or try to figure out anything they could that was somewhat negative or bad. They were just trying to create stories, and it was hard to be, like, \u2018I\u2019ve been labeled the good girl but I\u2019m also just normal [and] doing all the normal things that teenagers are doing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While Duff tried not to \u201caccept\u201d the labels as her truth, she found the lack of privacy to be especially difficult.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember that time [when I was asked] if I was a virgin,\u201d she recalled on Wednesday\u2019s episode. \u201cI think, also, as a child actor, you\u2019re conditioned to want to give people what they want, so answering something like that felt really wild. \u2026 It\u2019s, like, so inappropriate. That stuff I don\u2019t think flies anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt took Hilary Duff a decade to release new music \u2014 and she had a clear reason for her return to the industry. \u201cIt was always going to happen. There\u2019s no way that [music] was not going to be part of my story,\u201d Duff, 38, said on the Wednesday, November 5, episode of the \u201cTherapuss\u201d [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Now that Duff has grown up, she\u2019s sharing her innermost thoughts and feelings with fans on Luck \u2026 Or Something.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cI think there was no way for me to make a record after 10 years and not dig into what those 10 years have looked like, the big things that have happened and that affect me and that make me who I am,\u201d Duff said. \u201cUnfortunately, a lot of that has not been great stuff. That\u2019s life, [and] it sucks that I\u2019m not an adult coming out with an album that people don\u2019t know my story and all the players in it. People have known everybody in my life since I was on Lizzie McGuire.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n
