President Donald Trump<\/a> this week delivered the longest-ever State of the Union speech, but \u201cLate Show\u201d host Stephen Colbert<\/a> said on Wednesday that he still managed to miss a topic. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cOne thing Trump did not mention in his two-hour, hockey-humping, immigrant-grumbling jambaroo was anything about the Epstein files,\u201d he said, referring to the files related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>, who was once close friends with Trump. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Trump administration came into office promising to release the files, only to stonewall instead \u2015 and when Congress passed a law forcing the release of the files, the administration was caught holding back<\/a> files and adding unnecessary redactions<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt is well-known that big, incriminating stuff has been redacted from what Pam Bondi released,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cAnd yesterday, we got confirmation that the DOJ has withheld or taken down more than 50 pages of material from the Epstein files related to Donald Trump.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Colbert pointed to a New York Times report<\/a> detailing how the Justice Department withheld what the newspaper described as \u201ckey materials,\u201d including FBI<\/a> memos on interviews with a woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted<\/a> by Trump and Epstein when she was a minor. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cTrump denies any wrongdoing,\u201d Colbert pointed out. \u201cBut it\u2019s weird that these files specifically are missing because the law prohibits redacting anything on the basis of embarrassment or reputational harm.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Times said an index reveals the FBI did four interviews and wrote a summary for each. But only one \u2015 which details her allegations against Epstein \u2015 is in the files. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The rest are missing, the newspaper reported. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHoly unholy. This would be the worst scandal in presidential history. That the files are missing should be the biggest story in the world,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cBut we\u2019re all so exhausted and worn down by this turd in a tie that when a bombshell like this comes along, we go, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s terrible.
