Gnarls Barkley<\/a> are finally back. The duo of singer CeeLo Green<\/a> and producer Danger Mouse<\/a> has announced their third and final album,\u00a0Atlanta<\/em>, out next Friday, March 6th via 10k Projects\/Atlantic Records. To build up anticipation, they have released the soulful \u201cPictures,\u201d their first new single in 18 years. Stream it below.<\/p>\n Spanning 13 tracks,\u00a0Atlanta<\/em> follows the duo\u2019s 2008 sophomore album,\u00a0The Odd Couple<\/em><\/a>. According to a press release, Green and Danger Mouse had always been set on recording a third album, but \u201clife and other creative pursuits intervened.\u201d They reconnected last year, agreeing to set aside time for this final chapter.<\/p>\n \u201cThe spirit of Gnarls Barkley is always self-discovery,\u201d Green explained in a statement. \u201cThe sweet, the sad, and the strange. The universe, the adventure inside of yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n Indeed, lead single \u201cPictures\u201d looks back at Green and Danger Mouse\u2019s teenage years on Atlanta\u2019s MARTA public train system in the \u201990s. \u201cLooks like motion pictures\/ Staring out the window of the MARTA train,\u201d Green croons. \u201cOn an adventure\/ Then back home again.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Green, the song\u2019s lyrics were inspired by his personal experience of getting sent home by a middle school principal every Friday while he was in 8th grade, after which he would \u201cride the train alone from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n Since The Odd Couple<\/em>, Green has released four solo albums and contributed to two Goodie Mob albums. Meanwhile, Danger Mouse has formed Broken Bells with The Shins\u2019 James Mercer and produced for Norah Jones, Portugal. The Man, Karen O, and many others.<\/p>\n Most recently, Danger Mouse teamed up with The Roots\u2019 Black Thought for their collaborative album,\u00a0Cheat Codes<\/em><\/a>, and released a third Broken Bells album,\u00a0Into the Blue<\/em><\/a>. Both projects dropped in 2022.<\/p>\n
