{"id":2302182,"date":"2026-02-27T00:35:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T00:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2302182"},"modified":"2026-02-27T00:35:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T00:35:20","slug":"a-work-of-love-for-the-crew-of-netflixs-frankenstein-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/a-work-of-love-for-the-crew-of-netflixs-frankenstein-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A work of love for the crew of Netflix&#8217;s &#8216;Frankenstein&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>LOS ANGELES \u2014 Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d which is streaming on Netflix, has been nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture.<\/p>\n<p>In his film, del Toro adapts Mary Shelley\u2019s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, an egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the nine nominations include Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The nominees, Kate Hawley, Mike Hill and Tamara Deverell, have all previously worked with del Toro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cFrankenstein\u201d trio are picking up steam ahead of the Oscars. Recently, all three won BAFTA Film Awards in their perspective categories: production design, make-up and hair, and costume design.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on their Academy nominations, Deverell told Spectrum News that it\u2019s really awesome to be nominated, though she believes artists shouldn\u2019t compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are among so many great films this year,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are all winners. I like to think of it that way. But it\u2019s really an honor. (Image courtesy of Ken Woroner\/Netflix)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The three nominees said that Netflix was immensely supportive of their work on \u201cFrankenstein.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey gave us the wings, and they let us fly&#8230; within a reasonable budget,\u201d Deverell said with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>In creating the creature, Hill told Spectrum News it took up to ten hours to get Jacob Elordi \u2014 who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor \u2014 ready for filming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would start at midnight and we\u2019d be ready for the morning shoot,\u201d he told Spectrum News. \u201cI know I simply couldn\u2019t do it. It is different for the makeup artist because you are applying the makeup and that\u2019s what you love doing. Ken Woroner\/Netflix)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>For the film\u2019s costumes, Hawley told Spectrum News that del Toro wanted a very modern feel even though the \u201cFrankenstein\u201d was a period film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did due diligence looking at silhouettes and what was defining the silhouette of the time, and after that, it was the thematic images that came from the script that Guillermo wrote,\u201d she said. \u201cThere were images of mythology, religion and, of course, nature.
