Updated with Paramount<\/a> comment. Warner Bros.<\/a> Discovery<\/a>\u2019s board of directors is ushering in a bidding war between Paramount and Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The board announced Thursday that it has officially labeled Paramount\u2019s latest $31-per-share offer a \u201ccompany superior proposal,\u201d a term with specific procedural meaning in the context of corporate mergers. Importantly, the description does not mean that the board has withdrawn its recommendation of Netflix\u2019s pending offer to shareholders. However, the move does trigger a period of four business days during which Netflix can respond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased Wbd\u2019s board has unanimously affirmed the superior value of our offer, which delivers to Wbd shareholders superior value, certainty and speed to closing,\u201d Paramount CEO David Ellison<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n
