\u201cLate Show\u201d host Stephen Colbert<\/a> on Thursday broke some bad news for President Donald Trump<\/a> after this week\u2019s State of the Union address. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump \u2015 who has said ratings are his \u201cwhole life<\/a>\u201d and the \u201conly one thing that matters<\/a>\u201d \u2015 saw an 11% drop in TV ratings<\/a> during this year\u2019s speech compared to his address before Congress last year. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cDonald Trump is really dragging down broadcast television,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cI mean, if I were CBS, I\u2019d cancel him.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The audience cheered loudly at the line, which doubled as a jab at his own employer. CBS announced last year that it was canceling Colbert\u2019s show<\/a> in a move the network claimed was \u201cpurely a financial decision\u201d but came as parent company Paramount sought federal approval to complete a merger.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Colbert said one rating, however, didn\u2019t drop: his own. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The live post-speech edition of \u201cThe Late Show\u201d was up 7% compared to his broadcast after last year\u2019s address. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYou know what I think was going on?\u201d he theorized. \u201cPeople may not like watching Trump, but they do like watching me not like watching Trump.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n See more in his Thursday night monologue: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
