The producer <\/strong>behind the documentary<\/strong>, Melania<\/strong>, is facing pushback after claiming that The Rolling Stones<\/strong> and Mick Jagger<\/strong> personally approved the use of their song \u201cGimme Shelter\u201d in the film. A representative for the band has disputed that account, clarifying that the licensing deal did not involve the group directly.<\/p>\n Released in January by Amazon MGM Studios, Melania follows US First Lady Melania Trump in the weeks leading up to her husband Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> second inauguration. The film received largely mixed-to-negative reviews from critics upon release. Producer Mark Beckman told Variety<\/a> that his team worked closely with the Rolling Stones regarding the use of \u201cGimme Shelter.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe worked very close with them on that,\u201d Beckman said. He further added that Jagger was \u201cactually involved\u201d and \u201cgave us his blessing.\u201d Sharing more, he added, \u201cThat wasn\u2019t something that we just pulled out. And that wasn\u2019t a political thing, With the Stones, they were just like, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re making a nice movie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n He further stated: \u201cThey were able to get over the hurdle: it\u2019s not politics \u2013 it\u2019s just some story about some woman that is going from being a civilian back into the White House. And this movie looks cool and Brett [Ratner] is doing a cool job and Melania Trump is focused, and let\u2019s do it.\u201d <\/p>\n A spokesperson for the Rolling Stones told The Guardian<\/a> that rights holder ABKCO handled the agreement to use \u201cGimme Shelter\u201d solely with the film\u2019s producers. The band itself did not participate in the licensing process. <\/p>\n A source close to Jagger also told the publication that skepticism around the producer\u2019s comments warrants consideration.
