This might just be our most chaotic playlist to date. It\u2019s musical (or, more accurately, emotional) whiplash as we careen from the unbridled yearning of Charli xcx<\/a>\u2019s \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d<\/em><\/a>-soundtracking \u201cEyes of the World feat. Sky Ferreira<\/a>\u201d, to the irrepressibly upbeat \u201cKeychain\u201d from Anderson .paak and and aespa, to Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar<\/a>\u2019s cinematic \u201cGood Flirts\u201d, and back down into the crumblings of Charli xcx\u2019s <\/span>Brat <\/span><\/em>empire with A. G. Cook\u2019s \u201cDread\u201d.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But, one project we\u2019d like to draw your attention to in particular is Kiss Facility\u2019s debut <\/span>Khazna <\/span><\/em>(roughly meaning \u2018treasure house\u2019). It\u2019s a true labour of love from IRL couple Sega Bodega<\/a> and Mayah Alkhateri, which sees the pair explore shoegaze in the Arabic language. Where the genre\u2019s forebearers like Cocteau Twins and Slowdive<\/a> evoke a certain warmth in their tranqued-out walls of sound, however, <\/span>Khazna <\/span><\/em>feels slightly colder. On some level, it\u2019s a reflection of the newfound relevance shoegaze has found in the digital age, recontextualising its original yearning for escapism against the profound physical isolation many experience today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, isolation feels like a bit of a trend this month, with Mitski\u2019<\/a>s eighth studio album, <\/span>Nothing\u2019s About to Happen to Me<\/span><\/em>, casting the singer-songwriter as a social recluse diving deep into her own psyche \u2013 and also spending a lot of time with cats<\/a>. Drain Gang star Bladee<\/a>, however, takes these feelings to the extreme in the new single \u201cMagic Misery\u201d. Some of the lyrics don\u2019t bear repeating here but trust us, it\u2019s pretty heavy stuff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Where February has really shone, though, is in a wonderful array of deep-cut singles for listeners to sink their teeth into. There\u2019s pop gigabrains Frost Children and Ninajirachi\u2019s cross-Pacific linkup \u201cSisters\u201d, Fcukers\u2019 gloriously nostalgic house cut \u201cBeatback\u201d, London producer-to-watch Amil Raja\u2019s loved-up \u201ci like u around\u201d, and, perhaps deep-cut-iest of all, Texan musician ryaan burks\u2019 dreamy R&B release \u201cfeels like love!\u201d. In truth, each of these deserves to be our track of the month, and each of them provides the perfect opportunity to check out these artists if you haven\u2019t tapped in already.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
