Susan Sarandon has claimed that she was essentially blacklisted from Hollywood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Thelma and Louise<\/span> actress alleges that after she spoke out and called for a ceasefire in Gaza that she was unable to take on roles in the United States.<\/p>\n \u201cI was fired by my agency, specifically for marching and speaking out about Gaza, for asking for a ceasefire,\u201d Sarandon told journalists at a discussion in celebration of receiving the International Goya Award for her career in Spain.<\/p>\n She said that she was no longer able to find work with any major studio as a result of her beliefs. <\/p>\n \u201cIt became impossible for me to even be on television. I don\u2019t know lately if it\u2019s changed. I couldn\u2019t do any major film or anything connected with Hollywood. I found agents ultimately in England and in Italy, and I work there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI just did a film in Italy, and I did a play at the Old Vic for a number of months. I know this Italian director that just hired me \u2014 he was told not to hire me, so that\u2019s still recently. He didn\u2019t listen, but they had that conversation.<\/p>\n \u201cRight now, I kind of specialise in tiny films with directors who have never directed, in independent films.\u201d<\/p>\n Sarandon went on to say that she felt as though Spain and other places in Europe had given her more freedom to express her thoughts on the war. <\/p>\n The Alfie<\/span> actress added: \u201cIn a place where you feel repression and censorship, to see Spain and to see the president and what he says and the support that he\u2019s giving about Gaza, and to have actors like Javier Bardem come forward with such a strong voice, is so important to us in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n It comes after a Hollywood insider alleged last month that movie studio Paramount has a list of celebrities it has black-listed for speaking out against Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza. <\/p>\n
