The \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d singer joined the 3rd Hour of TODAY on Feb. 27 to reflect on the global impact of her hit song, \u201cGolden.\u201d<\/p>\n
EJAE co-wrote \u201cGolden,\u201d which made history as the first K-Pop song to win a Golden Globe in January<\/a> and a Grammy in February.<\/a><\/p>\n She, along with Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, are the singing voices of the movie\u2019s fictional K-Pop group HUNTER\/X.<\/p>\n Audrey Nuna, EJAE and Rei Ami of “KPop Demon Hunters.” (Brianna Bryson \/ WireImage)<\/p>\n (Brianna Bryson)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Despite being the voice of a global sensation, Ejae admitted to an unexpected secret on TODAY: She has “really bad stage fright.”<\/p>\n \u201cAs a matter of fact, recently I had a performance where I cracked on the first \u2018born to be,\u2019 the highest note in the song,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Before her big performance, Ejae had time to practice, which she recalled as being \u201cso good.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate because during the rehearsals I was amazing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n This made Ejae feel confident to go out there and \u201ccrush this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n Then, right as she was getting to the high note, she made eye contact with a certain celebrity.<\/p>\n \u201cI unfortunately open my eyes and lock eyes with Leonardo DiCaprio,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Ejae\u2019s voice cracked in that moment. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018No\u2019!\u201d she exclaimed.<\/p>\n But the show must go on. Ejae persisted and showed the crowd who she was \u201cborn to be.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI could not but like I had to stay resilient, so I kept true to the song. Like, focus on the lyrics, girl,\u2019\u2019\u2019 she reassured herself.<\/p>\n Ejae didn’t specify the awards show, but she recently performed at the BAFTAs<\/a> where DiCaprio was present and sitting near the stage. Her voice cracked during the first high note. TODAY.com has reached out for comment.<\/p>\n During her TODAY appearance, Ejae spoke to the collaborative work behind the song and the film, noting that \u201cGolden\u201d was the last song written for the movie.<\/p>\n \u201cGolden\u201d is a K-Pop song with Korean and English lyrics. EJAE said that having people from all backgrounds singing the lyrics has been touching.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause when I grew up, people didn\u2019t know where Korea was, genuinely,\u201d EJAE shared.<\/p>\n \u201cNow seeing Korea celebrated through this beautiful animated film, it\u2019s just a dream come true,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n In August, \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d officially became the most popular Netflix film to date. <\/a>The fan-favorite film is not coming to an end, and a confirmed sequel<\/a> is planned for a 2029 release.<\/p>\n
