(celebrity.land) \u2014 <\/b>US women\u2019s hockey team gold medalists Megan Keller and Hilary Knight skated by some ongoing drama related to the US men\u2019s hockey team when they appeared on the latest episode of \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/p>\n
The episode, hosted by \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d star Connor Storrie, took place days after the US men\u2019s hockey team won gold<\/a> at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, going on to draw ire for partying with FBI director Kash Patel and subsequently facing backlash for laughing during a call with President Trump after he joked<\/a> he would be \u201cimpeached\u201d for not inviting the US women\u2019s hockey team, who also won gold<\/a>, to the White House.<\/p>\n The women\u2019s team later declined Trump\u2019s invitation to attend the State of the Union, citing scheduling conflicts, while the men\u2019s team did show up.<\/p>\n Storrie welcomed brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes on the stage first during his opening monologue<\/a> on Saturday, with the pair donning their gold medals and some missing teeth.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve been so busy playing, we haven\u2019t had time to see your show yet,\u201d Jack Hughes said, before his brother chimed in to joke, \u201cIt\u2019s about hockey, right?\u201d<\/p>\n Keller and Knight, also donning their gold medals, then walked out on stage after Storrie said he hoped \u201csome <\/em>hockey players\u201d watched \u201cRivalry,\u201d winking at the fact that much of the show\u2019s audience<\/a> has been women drawn to the gay romance aspect.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t worry,\u201d said Keller. \u201cWe saw your show.\u201d<\/p>\n Keller and Knight went on to poke fun at the Hughes about how the women were originally supposed to appear on \u201cSNL\u201d alone, but \u201cwe thought we\u2019d invite the guys too,\u201d and reminded the audience that the women\u2019s hockey team won gold just \u201ctwo whole Olympics ago,\u201d after the men mentioned their team last won gold over 40 years ago.<\/p>\n The appearance by the athletes all appeared to be in good fun, with no mention of the controversy surrounding the men\u2019s team\u2019s reaction to Trump\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n \u201cMy show speaks to people who are not always represented in hockey,\u201d Storrie said at the end of his monologue. \u201cSo this is really great to have actual hockey legends here tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n Storrie\u2019s debut appearance on \u201cSNL\u201d was akin to a decisive slap shot on the ice, a milestone he celebrated alongside his \u201cRivalry\u201d costar Hudson Williams, who made a surprise appearance during a sketch that took place\u2026 at the Rockefeller Center ice rink.<\/p>\n The episode featured moments where Storrie exercised his considerate foreign accent skills, which fans of \u201cRivalry\u201d \u2014 the romantic hockey-set series<\/a> that has turned Storrie and Williams into the hottest male screen sirens of the moment \u2014 already knew quite well. I love any opportunity to do an accent, learn a new skill, and this had all of it,\u201d he told Out<\/a> in November of the role.<\/p>\n A mere nine months ago<\/a>, Storrie was working as a server at a Culver City, Los Angeles restaurant<\/a>, and almost got fired the day he found out he landed one of the leads in \u201cHeated Rivalry.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s a part of Storrie\u2019s story that he touched on during his opening monologue on Saturday, saying that since he was plucked from that restaurant to star on \u201cRivalry,\u201d his life has \u201ctotally changed.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve only technically been a professional actor for like, six months now, but on the other hand, I\u2019ve been preparing for this my entire life,\u201d he said. \u201cOn one hand, I\u2019m totally surprised and humbled that this is happening to me, and on the other hand, this was my destiny,\u201d he added dramatically.<\/p>\n Aside from blowing the lid off of what was previously thought of as permissible with what can be shown onscreen when it comes to gay sex, \u201cRivalry\u201d has changed the cultural conversation in relation to portrayals of masculinity, consent and the potential for the romance genre in the streaming age.<\/p>\n Before \u201cHeated Rivalry,\u201d which (of course) has been renewed for a second season, Storrie was probably best known for a small but pivotal role in 2024\u2019s \u201cJoker: Folie a Deux.\u201d<\/p>\n Along with Williams and their \u201cHeated\u201d costar Fran\u00e7ois Arnaud, he has been just about everywhere recently, from the Grammys<\/a> to announcing the Actor Award nominations<\/a> to Paris Fashion Week<\/a> to hobnobbing with acclaimed Hollywood directors<\/a>.
