Another day, another ruthless, dangerous public body shaming. Kelly Osbourne issued a blistering statement on her Instagram Stories<\/a> after appearing at the 2026 BRIT Awards alongside her mom, Sharon Osbourne. The pair were there to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Kelly\u2019s late father, Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July 2025 at age 76.<\/p>\n Instead of focusing on honoring that moment \u2014 a daughter mourning her much-beloved late dad on a massive public stage \u2014 online critics zeroed in on Kelly\u2019s body\u2026. as online critics do.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something,\u201d she wrote. She went on to call out those \u201ckicking me while I\u2019m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that she is currently going through \u201cthe hardest time in [her] life\u201d and \u201cshould not even have to defend [herself].\u201d But, she said, she would not \u201callow [herself] to be dehumanized in such a way.\u201d<\/p>\n The fact that she even has to say that out loud is the problem.<\/p>\n As I previously reported in December, this isn\u2019t Kelly\u2019s first round in what is basically a no-win Olympics for women\u2019s bodies. After Ozzy\u2019s death, she explained that grief had made it difficult to eat, leading to noticeable weight loss<\/a>, as it commonly does. Instead of compassion, she was met with accusations of Ozempic use, illness speculation, and general disapproval.<\/p>\n \u201cMy dad just died, and I\u2019m doing the best that I can,\u201d she said at the time, telling critics to \u201cf\u2014 off.\u201d<\/p>\n That was two months ago. And here we are again. (Of course, we never really left.)<\/p>\n The whiplash is almost textbook. Kelly has spoken openly in the past about being mocked when she was heavier \u2014 even hiding during her pregnancy out of fear of becoming a national punchline. Now, as a grieving daughter whose body reflects stress and heartbreak, she\u2019s being told she looks \u201ctoo thin.\u201d<\/p>\n Too fat. Too skinny. Too different. Too changed. Too much. Not enough. That\u2019s how it goes forever and ever down the line! The rules are labyrinthine and always impossible to follow.<\/p>\n There\u2019s something especially jarring about watching people speculate about weight-loss drugs or illness when someone has been explicitly clear: I am grieving. My father died. (News that made global headlines, anyway.)<\/p>\n Sharon Osbourne recently defended her daughter as well, saying Kelly \u201ccan\u2019t eat right now\u201d because of the depth of her grief. That should end the conversation.<\/p>\n Instead, strangers are still spending their time analyzing red carpet photos, writing comments, and deciding what a 41-year-old woman\u2019s body should look like while she grieves a parent.<\/p>\n But we all know, borne out by so many recent stories \u2014 from Amy Schumer<\/a> to Simone Biles<\/a> to Lizzo<\/a> \u2014 it\u2019s that women\u2019s bodies remain public property. They\u2019re constantly audited, critiqued and debated like open-source code.<\/p>\n Kelly Osbourne showing up in black at the BRITs to honor her father should have been a story about legacy, music, and loss.<\/p>\n Instead, it became another reminder: You don\u2019t get time off from body commentary. Not for pregnancy, or for career transitions, and not even for bereavement.<\/p>\n And I\u2019d say that truly is a special kind of cruelty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
