Wicked: For Good\u2019<\/em>s Ariana Grande is nominated at the Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, but the star isn\u2019t making a red carpet return this evening. The actress\u2019s rep confirms to ELLE that she is not in attendance due to tour prep and rehearsals. Grande\u2019s Eternal Sunshine Tour begins<\/a> on June 6.<\/p>\n

Grande is nominated this evening for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role award for the second Wicked<\/em> film.<\/p>\n

The two-part film kicked off Grande\u2019s return to acting. She spoke to Variety<\/em><\/a> in January about what most surprised her when she recommitted herself to the art after years of focusing on her music career. (Grande got her start on Broadway\u2019s 13<\/em><\/a> when she was a teenager and then starred on Nickelodeon\u2019s show Victorious<\/em><\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time something goes well\u2014even if you\u2019ve prepared for it for years\u2014there\u2019s always that rush of relief and gratitude afterward,\u201d she said. \u201cYou think, \u2018Oh my goodness, OK, we did it.\u2019 You call your acting coach or your mom and say, \u2018We did it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Wicked<\/em>, that feeling happened constantly,\u201d she continued. \u201cCynthia [Erivo, who played Elphaba] and I joke about it, but it\u2019s true\u2014every single day was a big day. We started with \u2018Popular\u2019 and \u2018What Is This Feeling?\u2019 and then jumped straight into \u2018Defying Gravity.\u2019 Before lunch, I\u2019d be in the attic at the beginning of the number, and after lunch I\u2019d be singing the finale alone. It was nonstop mental hurdles. There was no time to process what had happened the day before\u2014or even earlier that day\u2014because we had such quick turnarounds. It was very much blinders on, just staying in it. But whenever something landed, there was that overwhelming sense of relief.\u201d<\/p>\n
