LOS ANGELES \u2014 For millions of fans, Kayce Dutton was the quiet conscience of \u201cYellowstone,\u201d torn between family, loyalty and violence. In \u201cMarshals,\u201d he leaves the ranch and joins an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals, stepping into what actor Luke Grimes calls a new phase for the character.<\/p>\n
<\/center> \u201cThe cool thing about what happens here is him finding this new group in this new purpose,\u201d Grimes said. \u201cThis new job gets him out of his comfort zone. Kayce, he\u2019s always had his demons, but in a way, it allows him to start to heal.\u201d<\/p>\n The series picks up after Kayce sells the Yellowstone ranch.<\/p>\n While Sheridan did not write or direct \u201cMarshals,\u201d he remains an executive producer and has publicly supported the project.<\/p>\n \u201cKnowing that we had his support and then hearing the idea and it actually being a really good idea got me really excited to do it,\u201d Grimes said.<\/p>\n Grimes also steps into a larger role behind the scenes as an executive producer.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s actually been really cool to be a little closer to the magic,\u201d Grimes said. \u201cIt\u2019s like going to film school for me right now. I\u2019m learning a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n The production reunites several cast and crew members from the original series, even returning to the same soundstages used when \u201cYellowstone\u201d began in 2017.<\/p>\n The spinoff comes at a critical time for the industry.<\/p>\n Television and film production continued to experience a significant downturn in 2025. In Los Angeles, shooting days dropped more than 16% to 19,694, the lowest level since 2020, according to FilmLA.<\/p>\n Sheridan\u2019s expanding slate has helped offset some of that slowdown.
