Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has shared new reflections on his collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan during the production of the 2011 film Ra.One. In a recent interview, Sinha admitted he once placed immense trust in the actor’s instincts about what audiences would appreciate, a stance he now questions.<\/p>\n

The filmmaker said that his admiration for the actor influenced many of his creative decisions at the time.<\/p>\n

‘I was enamoured by Shah Rukh’<\/h3>\n

In an interview with Zoom, Sinha said, “Main Shah Rukh se bahut zyada enamoured bhi tha. Mujhe lagta tha isko humse zyada aata hai ki audience ko kya pasand hai. To kai martaba aisa hua hoga (I was very enamoured by Shah Rukh. I used to think that he understands far better than us what the audience likes. So there must have been many instances when that happened),” he explained.<\/p>\n

Trusting stardom over instinct<\/h3>\n

He expressed that this belief shaped several key choices as Ra.One came together. The 60-year-old stressed how easy it can be to rely on the reputation and experience of established figures within the industry.<\/p>\n

“Achha lekin hua hoga ki maine kuch aise decision liye kyunki wo bol raha tha aur mujhe laga ye isko to pata hai. Isko to 100% pata hai. Aise sochna nahi chahiye tha (But yes, it must have happened that I might have taken some decisions because he was saying so, and I believed he knows best. I probably shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have thought that way),” he added.<\/p>\n

Looking back with perspective<\/h3>\n

Reflecting on this period, Sinha said that he now sees things differently<\/a>. The director noted that time has given him perspective and an understanding that unquestioned faith in anyone – even someone of Khan’s stature – can limit a filmmaker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s own input.<\/p>\n

More about Ra.One<\/h3>\n

Ra. One, which starred Shah Rukh as a game designer, was notable for its special effects and was produced by Red Chillies VFX. The film opened to mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office.<\/p>\n

His recent release Assi, headlined by actor Taapsee Pannu, released in theatres on February 20.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh will be seen in the much-awaited film King<\/a>. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also stars Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.<\/p>\n
