That\u2019s nothing compared to the 1985 Oscars, when all five nominees had been No. 1 hits, for the first and (so far) only time in Oscar history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The nominees included two songs from <em>Footloose<\/em> \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/kenny-loggins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kenny Loggins;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kenny Loggins<\/a>\u2019 rhythmic title song and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/deniece-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Deniece Williams;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Deniece Williams<\/a>\u2019 midtempo R&amp;B\/pop charmer, \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It for the Boy.\u201d <em>Footloose<\/em> was just the fourth film to spawn two best original song nominees, following <em>Fame<\/em> in 1981 and a pair of films in 1984, <em>Flashdance <\/em>and<em> Yentl<\/em>. Dean Pitchford, who wrote the screenplay for <em>Footloose <\/em>and co-wrote all the songs on the soundtrack, was nominated for co-writing both songs. He was the only nominee in the category that year who had previously won an Oscar. In 1981, he won for co-writing Irene Cara\u2019s smash \u201cFame\u201d from the film of the same name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The other nominees were <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/phil-collins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Phil Collins;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Phil Collins<\/a>\u2019 torch ballad \u201cAgainst All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)\u201d from <em>Against All Odds<\/em>; <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/ray-parker-jr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ray Parker Jr.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Ray Parker Jr.<\/a>\u2019s catchy earworm \u201cGhostbusters\u201d from the film of the same name; and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/stevie-wonder\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Stevie Wonder;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Stevie Wonder<\/a>\u2019s warm, sentimental \u201cI Just Called to Say I Love You\u201d from <em>The Woman in Red<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two of these songs, \u201cAgainst All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)\u201d and \u201cI Just Called To Say I Love You,\u201d also received Grammy nods for song of the year. (The Grammys didn\u2019t introduce their category of best song written for visual media until 1988.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As stacked as this category was that year, two other film songs topped the Hot 100 that year and were not nominated \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/prince\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Prince;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Prince<\/a>\u2019s \u201cWhen Doves Cry\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/prince-and-the-revolution\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Prince and the Revolution;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Prince and the Revolution<\/a>\u2019s \u201cLet\u2019s Go Crazy,\u201d both from <em>Purple Rain<\/em>. They instead extended the invite to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IWNvlT44nlw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:singer\/dancer;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">singer\/dancer <\/a>Ann Reinking, who was joined by dancer Gary Chryst. Four years later, when Collins was nominated for \u201cTwo Hearts,\u201d <em>none<\/em> of the nominated songs were performed on the telecast. He followed this smash with \u201cDanger Zone\u201d from <em>Top Gun<\/em>, \u201cMeet Me Halfway\u201d from <em>Over the Top<\/em> and \u201cNobody\u2019s Fool\u201d from <em>Caddyshack II, <\/em>all of which made the top 15 on the Hot 100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>Footloose <\/em>was such an iconic film that it was remade in 2011. Blake Shelton performed the title song in the reboot. He even opened that year\u2019s Country Music Association Awards with a performance of the song, where he was joined by Loggins. (That makes up for the fact that Loggins wasn\u2019t invited to perform his smash on the 1985 Oscars. Debbie Allen performed a<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D_r6dsoUqT8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:heavily-choreographed;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> heavily-choreographed <\/a>rendition of the song instead.
