Prince William<\/strong> may become the next king of England sooner than anticipated.<\/p>\n

According to a Monday, March 2, post on journalist Rob Shuter<\/strong>\u2019s Naughty But Nice<\/a> Substack, King Charles III<\/strong> \u2014 who has been living with an undisclosed form of cancer \u2014 is getting ready to hand the throne down to his son, 43, within the next year, sources said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe institution is preparing emotionally<\/a>, even if the paperwork hasn\u2019t caught up,\u201d a longtime aide told Shuter, adding that the Prince of Wales is \u201calready king unofficially\u201d in \u201cmany ways\u201d due to his intricate involvement in the monarchy.<\/p>\n

Shortly after Charles, 77, ascended the throne following Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong>\u2019s death, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 \u2014 and Shuter\u2019s sources cite health concerns as a reason for William to take over sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

Still, a senior courtier said, \u201cThe transition will look measured and dignified.\u201d<\/p>\n

A palace insider also claimed that the king wants to control the narrative<\/a>, explaining, \u201cCharles will not be seen as pushed. He has waited a lifetime for this role. When he steps back, it will be entirely on his terms.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s a handover, it won\u2019t feel like surrender,\u201d a former palace adviser added. \u201cIt will feel inevitable<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

William\u2019s wife, Princess Kate<\/strong>, has also been dealing with health issues of her own after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.<\/p>\n

But the mother of three, 44 \u2014 who shares Prince George<\/strong>, 12, Princess Charlotte<\/strong>, 10, and Prince Louis<\/strong>, 7, with William \u2014 is throwing herself back into work following her treatments and has got \u201cso much she wants to accomplish this coming year,\u201d a source told Star<\/em><\/a> in January.<\/p>\n
