Over the last seven seasons, Outlander<\/em><\/a> has gone to many different places and through various timelines. Naturally, that leaves a few outstanding questions<\/a> for superfans \u2014 with some that date all the way back to Season 1\u2019s first episode in 2014. Here, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts<\/a> lets us quiz him on what we\u2019re dying to know.<\/p>\n For so long, fans have wondered about the shot of Jamie (Sam Heughan<\/a>) underneath Claire\u2019s (Caitr\u00edona Balfe<\/a>) window in the series premiere. Will Season 8 uncover the story behind his spectral presence in the 1940s? Fans \u201cmight have to live with\u201d the mystery, Roberts coyly says. \u201cI can\u2019t say how they\u2019re going to deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n Outlander \u00a9 2022 Starz Entertainment, LLC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Or more importantly, when<\/em>? The last time viewers saw Brianna (Sophie Skelton<\/a>) and Roger (Richard Rankin<\/a>), they were at Lallybroch, years before Claire first arrived in the 18th century. After so much time travel, is the family of four planning to settle? \u201cRoger and Bree\u2019s arc in Season 8 is finding when and where they belong,\u201d Roberts says. \u201cFinding their place is going to be a struggle.\u201d But, he notes, \u201cThere will be a lot of resolutions. I\u2019m telling a story that\u2019s been told in books, and we\u2019re trying to be faithful to them.\u201d<\/p>\n In Season 8\u2019s teaser trailer, it was revealed that a book written by Claire\u2019s first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies<\/a>), implies that Jamie dies in an impending battle. \u201cThat\u2019s a very big driving force in the season,\u201d Roberts says. Still, the EP notes that Jamie and Claire have \u201clived the majority of their lives together knowing that [they\u2019ve] tried multiple times to change history.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a9 2024 Starz Entertainment, LLC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n At the end of Season 7, the series heavily implied that Jamie and Claire\u2019s first daughter Faith might not have been stillborn after all. \u201cClaire and Jamie [are] in the middle of the Revolutionary War,\u201d Roberts says, \u201cso that is absolutely going to take up their<\/span> attention, but there is a resolution to the Faith story.\u201d<\/p>\n Time traveler Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon<\/a>), whom viewers first met as an apothecary in Season 2\u2019s France-set episodes, returned last season with the promise that he and Claire would meet again. So will he be back? All Roberts would tease is, \u201cI think his presence will be felt.\u201d<\/p>\n Outlander<\/em>\u2018s spinoff, Blood of My Blood,<\/em>\u00a0delivered some surprising backstory for Jamie\u2019s and Claire\u2019s lineages, like the introduction of Claire\u2019s younger brother. \u201cWill the fans who have watched Outlander<\/em>, who also watch Blood of My Blood<\/em>, get more out of it?\u201d asks Roberts. \u201cProbably, and vice versa. When we\u2019re cross-pollinating things, the hope is that someone will notice and get something from it.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the course of the series, Jamie has described dreams he\u2019s had that seem to take place in the future.
