The Mummy 4<\/a> is ignoring the franchise’s worst sequel.<\/p>\n

Released in 1999, The Mummy<\/a> introduced Brendan Fraser<\/a> as Rick O’Connell<\/a> and Rachel Weisz<\/a> as Evelyn<\/a>, two characters who returned in 2001’s The Mummy Returns<\/a>. Only Fraser<\/a> reprised his role for 2008’s critically lambasted The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor<\/a>, however, with Maria Bello<\/a> replacing Weisz as Evelyn.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, The Mummy 4<\/a> directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/a> and Tyler Gillet<\/a>, who make two thirds of filmmaking team Radio Silence, confirm that their film won’t be treating Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and its recast as canon. “Well, Rachel is in this one,” Bettinelli-Olpin says.
