In what sounds like something more befitting of \u201cThe Mask\u201d than real life, people online are claiming that there’s a fake Jim Carrey out in the world.<\/p>\n
After the 64-year-old actor made an appearance at the C\u00e9sar Awards last month,\u00a0online conspiracies<\/a>\u00a0emerged about him being cloned or impersonated after\u00a0his post award interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n The rumors only intensified after a makeup artist claimed he pretended to be Carrey at the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n The 2026 C\u00e9sar Awards, which honor the best in French film, were held in Paris on Feb. 26. Carrey, who has kept a low profile in recent years and whose last film was 2024\u2019s \u201cSonic the Hedgehog 3,\u201d\u00a0gave a speech in French<\/a>\u00a0while accepting an honorary C\u00e9sar Award.<\/p>\n After his speech, he\u00a0spoke with reporters<\/a>\u00a0about writing and rehearsing for the moment. Many were confused by his calmer and emotional demeanor, as opposed to his funny faces and wacky character that he\u2019s known for.<\/p>\n Many online suggested that\u00a0he got botox<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0work done\u00a0<\/a>on his face, while others commented on the difference in his voice. Others wrote, \u201cHe\u2019s just trolling people and awards as only he can”<\/a>\u00a0and \u201cHe gave up and started going with the flow.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n However, Carrey’s team said he was indeed on hand at the ceremony.<\/p>\n \u201cJim Carrey attended the C\u00e9sar Awards, where he accepted his Honorary Cesar Award,\u201d his team said in a statement to TODAY.com.<\/p>\n Carrey’s\u00a0previous red carpet appearance<\/a>\u00a0was in November 2025 when he reunited with his former \u201cHow the Grinch Stole Christmas\u201d co-star Taylor Momsen at the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n Additionally, Gregory Caulier, general counsel for the C\u00e9sar Awards,\u00a0told Variety<\/a>\u00a0in a statement that Carrey was in attendance.<\/p>\n \u201cJim Carrey\u2019s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy\u2019s invitation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cEight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words,\u201d Caulier said. \u201cHe came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.\u201d<\/p>\n Alexis Stone, known for transforming into famous celebs, stoked interest in the matter with an Instagram post on March 1 that went viral in which he\u00a0claimed he had impersonated<\/a>\u00a0the \u201cAce Ventura\u201d star.<\/p>\n \u201cAlexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris,\u201d he captioned the post, which featured two photos of what looks like Carrey\u2019s face, along with a shot of a prosthetic mask and teeth, makeup and wig, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.<\/p>\n The post generated plenty of conversation.<\/p>\n \u201c\ud83c\udfaf\u201d commented Katy Perry.<\/p>\n \u201cStill suspicious button\u2014\u2014\u2014>,\u201d another skeptical user wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cWe demand proof of life from Jim Carrey !!!!\u201d someone else commented.<\/p>\n Other people also chimed in to note that AI might’ve played a role in the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s ai we need proof and we need to see that Jim is well,\u201d someone wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is not real.
