Coinciding with today\u2019s blood\/worm moon, signifying the end of winter and the beginning of spring, Peter Gabriel<\/a> is looking forward to \u201cWhat Lies Ahead\u201d with the latest single from his upcoming album, o\/i<\/em><\/a>. Stream it below.<\/p>\n Beginning with calming chants, \u201cWhat Lies Ahead\u201d is a deliberate meditative track buoyed by the string section. \u201cYou see the world now all connected,\u201d Gabriel sings. \u201cFlowing as a brain\/ You see the world the way it will be\/ Unfolding in your hands.\u201d<\/p>\n As Gabriel explained in a press statement, he first performed \u201cWhat Lies Ahead\u201d without words, as a work in progress, on his \u201cBack to Front\u201d tour more than a decade ago. Featuring the Scandinavian choir, Orphei Dr\u00e4ngar, the track was built atop a melody made by Gabriel\u2019s son, Isaac, and also includes contributions from Jennie Abrahamson, cellist Linnea Olsson, and more orchestral elements from John Metcalfe.<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n According to Gabriel, his friend Brian Eno suggested starting the song with the choir. \u201cI\u2019ve always liked spiritual, inspirational music because sometimes people get to a different place when they remove themselves and are just present with this feeling of something else out there,\u201d he said. \u201cAlthough I\u2019m not religious myself, I definitely have the feeling for it and that\u2019s what I was hoping we would have with the choir at the front, that you go straight away into this other world.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued by explaining that \u201cWhat Lies Ahead\u201d is about \u201cinventors and invention. My dad was an electrical engineer, inventor and I saw him go through the frustrations of not only trying to realize an idea, which has to normally go through so many iterations, but then to sell it, both to the people who\u2019ve got the money and then to the outside world. So, I\u2019ve always been curious about the creative process and how that applies to inventors.\u201d<\/p>\n The track is accompanied by Judy Chicago\u2019s 1982 artwork \u201cBirth Tear \/ Tear.\u201d This \u201cBright-Side Mix\u201d by Mark \u201cSpike\u201d Stent will be followed by Tchad Blake\u2019s \u201cDark-Side Mix\u201d of \u201cPut the Bucket Down\u201d to coincide with a new moon later this month.<\/p>\n o\/i<\/em> is the follow-up to Gabriel\u2019s\u00a02023 comeback album,\u00a0i\/o<\/a><\/em>, which marked his first new album in 12 years.<\/p>\n
