The Mummy<\/a> franchise began in 1999 and introduced moviegoers to Brendan Fraser<\/a>‘s\u00a0Rick O’Connell<\/a> and Rachel\u00a0Weisz’s\u00a0Evelyn Carnahan. Following a clash with a resurrected\u00a0Imhotep<\/a>, they later returned in 2001’s\u00a0The Mummy Returns<\/a>, which introduced Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson<\/a>‘s Scorpion King<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That character was front and centre in his own ill-fated spin-off, before the franchise rose from the dead in 2008 with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor<\/a>. That also didn’t receive the warmest response, even with Jet Li<\/a> taking on a starring role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perhaps most disappointing for longtime fans\u00a0was Weisz not reprising\u00a0her role as\u00a0Evelyn<\/a> and being replaced by\u00a0Coyote<\/a> Ugly star Maria Bello<\/a>.<\/p>\n
