Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> on Tuesday night made an unexpected offer to Donald Trump<\/a> after the president said he would attend<\/a> the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association\u2019s annual dinner for the first time in either of his terms. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kimmel pointed out that this year\u2019s host isn\u2019t a comedian, as usual, but mentalist Oz Pearlman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll have a mentalist and a mental case onstage together,\u201d he cracked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kimmel, who hosted the event in 2012, offered an alternative. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI want to address the president directly on this,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cMr. President, please let me host this dinner. I\u2019ve never asked you for anything, but can you imagine you, me, the commissioner of the FCC, all at a table together? Think of the ratings.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kimmel also had a sweetener \u2015 something known to entice the president. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI\u2019ll even throw in an award,\u201d he said. \u201cYou like awards, I\u2019ll give you a brand-new award: The Correspondy, the Dundie Correspondy. No one will ever get it besides you. Please, give the people what they want for once.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The president called repeatedly<\/a> for Kimmel to be fired<\/a>, and reportedly tried to have him censored<\/a> during his first term. Kimmel, in turn, has routinely made the president the butt of his monologue jokes \u2015 and Kimmel\u2019s \u201cpast your jail time\u201d crack<\/a> at the 2024 Oscars became one of the year\u2019s most viral moments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Last year, Kimmel was briefly pulled off the air after threats by Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr<\/a>, who was appointed to his position by Trump, over comments he made about the suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kimmel played up the drama of a WHCA showdown between himself and the president. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThis is our destiny together. You and me,\u201d he said. \u201cThink about it.
