It\u2019s been a long time coming, but Hancher\u2019s fall welcome concert is returning with Americana superstar Sierra Ferrell.<\/p>\n\n

The free concert<\/a> will begin at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, outside on the Hancher Green<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Who is Sierra Ferrell?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ferrell is the latest luminary in roots music. Her third studio album, \u201cLong Time Coming,\u201d<\/a> released in 2021, received critical acclaim for Ferrell\u2019s unique approach. The four-time Grammy Award-winner, won Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Performance for her latest release, \u201cTrail of Flowers<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

At the 2025 Grammys, Ferrell was one behind the night’s most awarded artist, Kendrick Lamar, who won five.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ferrell has collaborated with many different artists, including Post Malone, Billy Strings, and, most recently, Mumford and Sons<\/a> on Saturday Night Live. Ferrell will also join Mumford and Sons as a touring act during the band\u2019s \u201cPrizefighter\u201d tour.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Ferrell highlights Hancher’s 54th season<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ferrell\u2019s Iowa City performance is one of more than 40 tour stops on the Heavy Petal Tour,<\/a> which includes festival dates and supporting artists like The Red Clay Strays. Ferrell\u2019s stop on the UI campus is her only free show.<\/p>\n

Her concert is one of many exciting shows during Hancher Auditorium\u2019s 54th\u00a0season<\/a>. The announced lineup includes Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers<\/a>, Ray LaMontagne<\/a> and Snarky Puppy<\/a>. Hancher\u2019s full season lineup will be announced in July. \u00a0<\/p>\n

How to get tickets to Sierra Ferrell<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The August welcome concert is free and open to the public, with no ticket required. However, fans\u00a0can RSVP online<\/a> for updates. The first 500 will receive a free, commemorative merch item.<\/p>\n
