Gary Dontzig<\/a>, a writer and producer on the hit CBS<\/a> sitcom \u201cMurphy Brown<\/a>,\u201d died Feb. 23 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 79.<\/p>\n

His longtime writing partner, Steven Peterman<\/a>, confirmed Dontzig died of a rare autoimmune disease on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dontzig began his career as an actor, appearing in guest roles on popular shows including \u201cThe Waltons<\/a>,\u201d \u201cChico and the Man<\/a>,\u201d \u201cOne Day at a Time<\/a>,\u201d \u201cToo Close for Comfort<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cLaverne & Shirley<\/a>.\u201d He also appeared on stage during a touring production of \u201cMame<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
