Christina Applegate is recalling the time she blew off Brad Pitt after bringing him as her date to an awards show \u2014 and instantly regretted it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In her new memoir \u201cYou With the Sad Eyes,\u201d which was released Tuesday, the \u201cDead to Me\u201d star, 54, recounted the time she invited an early-career Pitt, whom she said she had already been \u201cplatonic pals [with] for the longest time,\u201d to the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Shortly before asking him to be her date, Applegate said she \u201ctook another look at Brad and thought\u201d he could be boyfriend material, claiming that he felt the same and agreed to go with her. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Applegate was 17 years old at the time and at the zenith of Hollywood fame after landing the beloved role of Kelly Bundy in \u201cMarried\u2026With Children.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Despite having budding heartthrob Pitt by her side at the awards ceremony where she was presenting that evening, she couldn\u2019t help but set her sights on rocker Sebastian Bach, who was also at the show. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI had spent all night staring at Bach, who was then a long-haired hunk fronting the band Skid Row,\u201d Applegate wrote, according to multiple<\/a> outlets<\/a>. \u201cI hate to put it like this, but Brad back then was still making his way as an actor, and he wasn\u2019t yet THE Brad Pitt, the man of so many people\u2019s dreams.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Applegate, who donned a Ceil Chapman gown to the ceremony that she said made her feel so \u201cincredible,\u201d added that she felt \u201cso powerful and sure of myself for once that when the awards show was over, I left with Sebastian Bach, not Brad Pitt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAnd it gets worse: Brad was left to sullenly drive my mom \u2026 home,\u201d she continued. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The evening continued plummeting from there after \u201cBrad almost got into a fight with a bunch of gang members, and, not surprisingly, was subsequently very mad at me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Applegate admitted that her knee-jerk reaction to leave Pitt for Bach backfired \u2014 soon after, she discovered at an afterparty that night that Bach was already spoken for and had a child.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhat a dick,\u201d Applegate wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cAnchorman\u201d star said Pitt \u201cdidn\u2019t talk\u201d to her \u201cfor many years\u201d after the debacle, and had even complained about the nightmarish date with Applegate to \u201ctwo of his movie star girlfriends.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cMuch later\u201d in life, she said the two women, whom she did not name, asked her if she was \u201cthe girl who left Brad behind at the MTV Video Music Awards.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Luckily for Applegate, Pitt was able to bury the hatchet. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cEventually, we agreed that I\u2019d been a kid, and though he deserved much better, it was time to forgive the child who dumped him for the lead singer of Skid Row,\u201d she wrote. \u201cOf course, Brad is now THE Brad Pitt, and Sebastian Bach \u2026 well, he still has long hair, I guess.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Netflix<\/a> star went on to marry Johnathon Schaech<\/a> in 2001 before they split in 2007.
