The beloved Saturday Night Live<\/a><\/em> short, “Natalie’s Rap,” starring Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman<\/a><\/strong>, has turned 20!<\/p>\n The digital short, which originally aired on March 4, 2006, featured a fictionalized version of Portman being interviewed by a reporter played by then-SNL<\/em> cast member Chris Parnell<\/strong>. In the short, Portman shared unexpected and very explicit details about her daily life.<\/p>\n SNL<\/em> fans shared their appreciation for the digital short in a March 4 Reddit thread<\/a>. Iconic,” chimed in a fan. <\/a><\/p>\n “This goes so hard,” shared a commenter. <\/a><\/p>\n “Natalie’s Rap” was written by the comedy group The Lonely Island, which consists of Andy Samberg<\/a><\/strong>, Akiva Schaffer<\/strong>, and Jorma Taccone<\/strong>. Samberg, Schaffer, and Taccone, who all began working at SNL <\/em>in 2005, discussed the digital short during a 2024 episode of their and Seth Meyers<\/a><\/strong>‘ podcast, The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast<\/em>. <\/a><\/p>\n Meyers, who was an SNL<\/em> cast member and head writer, described the digital short as “a seminal moment in celebrity rap history.”<\/p>\n According to Taccone, Portman, who was a fan of The Lonely Island’s 2005 digital short “Lazy Sunday<\/a>,” had told the trio that she was interested in performing a rap song while hosting her SNL <\/em>episode.<\/p>\n “Natalie came in, it was on Monday<\/a>, and was like, ‘Hey, let’s do a song.’ And she wanted to do a rap song, as I recall. But we were like, ‘I don’t know if we can do that. You got to come kind of hard if you’re going to do that,'” said Taccone.<\/p>\n Taccone said that Portman responded by performing a Lil’ Kim<\/strong> rap, which impressed him, Samberg, and Schaffer.
