Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/a>\u2019s Netflix projects are reportedly \u201cstuck in limbo\u201d<\/a> leaving their watered-down deal with the streaming giant \u201cup in the air\u201d, it has been claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last announced a new \u201cmulti-year first look\u201d deal with Netflix<\/a> after their previous, lucrative contract ended, in what was billed as an \u201cextension\u201d of their partnership with the streaming service through their media company, Archewell Productions.<\/p>\n The Sussexes\u2019 new deal is considerably different from the one they struck back in 2020<\/a>, reportedly worth \u00a374million. Much like the Obamas, Netflix<\/a> now hears the Sussexes’ ideas for potential projects first before deciding whether to obtain the rights to them.<\/p>\n One of those projects is the film adaptation of Carley Fortune\u2019s bestselling novel Meet Me At The Lake.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In 2023, the Sussexes announced their media company would produce a \u201cromance feature\u201d based on the novel, with Netflix reportedly paying around \u00a32.2m ($3million) for the rights to it.<\/p>\n However, Page Six<\/a> reports that, three years later, the film’s development \u201chasn\u2019t got very far\u201d and still lacks a director and a cast. The latest news has reportedly left Hollywood<\/a> insiders \u201cbaffled\u201d.<\/p>\n One source told the outlet: \u201cThree years in development for a movie like this at Netflix isn\u2019t good.\u201d<\/p>\n Another project based on a novel is the adaptation of Jasmine Guillory\u2019s romantic novel The Wedding Date, announced last September.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n But the project is also classified as \u201cin development\u201d on Netflix, with no further updates issued.<\/p>\n Another source said: \u201cI don\u2019t know how long this new deal is for, but if they don\u2019t have anything to show soon, I can\u2019t imagine it will be renewed.\u201d<\/p>\n Sources close to Archewell said that a number of projects in various phases of development are moving through the \u201cnormal creative process\u201d.<\/p>\n It comes as Meghan\u2019s latest offering for Netflix, With Love, Meghan, failed to get renewed for a third season, after the first two flopped in ratings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
