Wolfgang Van Halen<\/a> has reflected on the time he and his late father Eddie Van Halen<\/a> jammed on a song that would appear years later on his band Mammoth<\/a>\u2019s latest album, The End<\/i>.<\/p>\n Guitar legend Eddie Van Halen tragically passed away in 2020 before the release of any music under his son Wolfgang\u2019s band, Mammoth. The band\u2019s first song, Distance<\/i>, arrived a month after Eddie\u2019s death, and served as a touching tribute from Wolfgang to his father.<\/p>\n But ideas that would later become Mammoth songs were in the works years beforehand, and as it turns out, Wolfgang even jammed one song in particular with Eddie way back in 2014. Answering a fan\u2019s question in a new edition of SiriusXM\u2019s Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk<\/i>, Wolfgang remembers [via antiMusic<\/i><\/a>] : \u201cActually in December of 2014 when I was getting ready to track what would be the beginning of Mammoth<\/i> \u2013 it was January 2015 that we started the original tracks.<\/p>\n \u201cI actually have a video \u2013 it\u2019s a really terribly filmed video because it\u2019s right next to my hi-hat on my cell phone, so it\u2019s just all hi-hat, total noise.<\/p>\n \u201cBut on a song that actually ended up on The End<\/i> \u2013 Selfish<\/i> \u2013 I have a video of my dad and I jamming on that song in 2014, which is crazy to think that it came out last year. That\u2019s how long that idea has been around.\u201d<\/p>\n Wolfgang explains that the pair jammed the song through \u201ca couple of times\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI taught him how to play it on guitar, and I got on drums\u2026 That\u2019s a video I hold very close. I love that.\u201d<\/p>\n
