Billy Porter<\/strong><\/a> made a rare comment about how he was \u201cdead for three days\u201d amid his battle with sepsis.<\/p>\n

During the Monday, March 2, episode of the \u201cOutlaws\u201d podcast, Porter, 56, recalled being diagnosed<\/a> and having to exit the Broadway production of Cabaret<\/em> due to the health scare. He said he went for a \u201croutine check\u201d when it was discovered that a kidney stone \u201cwas trapped in [his] urethra.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they got in there, there was so much puss and bile and infection behind the stone,\u201d he shared. \u201cIt bubbled up, and I went uroseptic in minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis is a condition that occurs when \u201cthe body responds improperly to an infection.\u201d Urosepsis, meanwhile, is a type of sepsis that begins when a urinary tract infection goes untreated and travels to the kidneys.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSome stars have continued to open up about their health battles \u2014 including with something as serious as septic shock. According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis is a serious condition in which the body improperly responds to an infection, causing the organs to work poorly. In August 2025, Bringing Up Bates star Erin Bates went [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI was dead for three days,\u201d Porter noted on Monday about being put on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine, which is a form of life support. \u201cI am a miracle. I\u2019m a walking miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n

After he gained consciousness again, Porter was told by doctors that his leg \u201chad gone into compartment syndrome, which is when the muscles close in on themselves and cut off the oxygen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo they had to cut me open on either side of my leg while I was in a coma, and from my knee to my hip, and leave it open for two days, so they could save my leg,\u201d he added. \u201cI am so grateful to be here. It is such a gift.\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke in September 2025 that Porter had to drop out of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club<\/a> due to a \u201cserious case of sepsis,\u201d according to a statement posted to the show\u2019s social media accounts at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we have made the painful decision to end our Broadway run on Sept. 21,\u201d producer Adam Speers<\/strong> said in a statement. \u201cOn behalf of all the producers, we\u2019re so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff\u2019s important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here.\u201d<\/p>\n
