The original and legendary <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/brian-eno\">Brian Eno<\/a>-led compilation featured the likes of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/oasis\">Oasis<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/blur\">Blur<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/radiohead\">Radiohead<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/orbital\">Orbital<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/portishead\">Portishead<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/massive-attack\">Massive Attack<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/suede\">Suede<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sinead-oconnor\">Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/manic-street-preachers\">Manic Street Preachers<\/a>, raising over \u00a31.25million and selling more 700,000 copies. This was followed by further charity records including 2002\u2019s \u20181 Love\u2019, 2003\u2019s \u2018Hope\u2019, 2005\u2019s \u2018Help!: A Day In The Life\u2019 and 2009\u2019s \u2018War Child Presents Heroes\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>For over 30 years, War Child has provided essential work to protect, educate, and support the mental health of children affected by war. \u2018Help(2)\u2019 comes at an extreme crisis point, with conflicts in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Syria and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Produced and stewarded by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/gorillaz\">Gorillaz<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/florence-and-the-machine\">Florence + The Machine<\/a>,\u00a0Blur, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/pet-shop-boys\">Pet Shop Boys<\/a>) \u2018Help(2)\u2019 was recorded through \u201ca close collaboration with Abbey Road Studios\u201d mostly during one week in November 2025. This was all done as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/renowned-arctic-monkeys-producer-james-ford-of-simian-mobile-disco-reveals-leukaemia-diagnosis-3829977\">Ford continued to battle leukaemia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWar Child approached me about doing a follow-up to \u2018Help\u2019 before I got sick at the end of 2024,\u201d he told <em>NME<\/em>. \u201cThe 30-year anniversary was looming. I\u2019ve always been a fan of theirs, and I was a huge fan of the first record. It was a real cultural moment when it came out so I was excited to help them put out another one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy health then took a turn for the worse, and the whole thing got put on hold. I thought they might have gone somewhere else but they\u2019ve waited for me to go through the whole of my treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_3932769\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3932769\" style=\"width: 2000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3932769\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">War Child\u2019s new \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album. Credit: Press<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>After picking up the conversation with War Child last summer, Ford teamed up with Transgressive Records boss Toby L, who helped with day-to-day operations at Abbey Road and A&amp;R decisions as he worked as creative project leader. Together, they \u201cstarted reaching out to managers and calling in all the favours we could\u201d, while also wanting to branch out to more US artists this time, such as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/geese\">Geese<\/a> frontman <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/cameron-winter\">Cameron Winter<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/olivia-rodrigo\">Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat ended up on the album were the people that could turn around a song in the limited amount of time we had,\u201d Ford explained.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re proud of the result. We think it holds together as a record that flows. The artists are a pretty good reflection of our current British and Irish music scene, as well as some great American names.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, Ford said that despite the influx of artists who wanted to add to the \u2018Help\u2019 legacy and make a difference to the lives of children suffering through war, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/james-ford-says-some-artists-refused-to-be-part-of-war-childs-help2-album-as-they-saw-it-as-too-political-3925203\">a number of acts they approached didn\u2019t want to be part of it as they felt it was \u201ctoo political\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything feels very scary and politicised at the minute, but helping children in war zones is a fairly apolitical and uncontroversial thing,\u201d he told us. \u201cStill, there were a few people who thought it was a little too political, which kind of baffles me a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_3932772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3932772\" style=\"width: 1335px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3932772\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/war_child_jarvis_2_Lawrence-Watson.jpg\" alt=\"Pulp's Jarvis Cocker with the all-child camera crew at the making of War Child's new 'Help(2)' album. Credit: Lawrence Watson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>One band to really grab music fans\u2019 attention were Arctic Monkeys, who had not released any new music since 2022\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/arctic-monkeys-the-car-review-3330197\">\u2018The Car\u2019<\/a>\u00a0and have caused <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/track\/arctic-monkeys-opening-night-track-review-3924919\">much speculation online<\/a> as to their future. Asked if their lead single track \u2018Opening Night\u2019 could be their swan song, Ford replied: \u201cNo comment! They\u2019re all <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/matt-helders-says-making-music-with-arctic-monkeys-is-something-they-will-always-do-and-doesnt-rule-out-new-material-3925920\">still great mates and they may do something again<\/a>, but there\u2019s nothing on the cards right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To get the lowdown on the full album, read on below as producer Ford talks us through the origins and making of each song on \u2018Help(2)\u2019 track-by-track, and how history came to be made once again with the best acts of today.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Arctic Monkeys \u2013 \u2018Opening Night\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/arctic-monkeys\">Al[ex Turner<\/a>], along with Fontaines D.C., was probably one of the first people I approached. For obvious reasons, I\u2019ve got a longstanding working relationship with those guys. It was kind of a big ask because the Monkeys are not touring at the moment or in the studio, and they didn\u2019t particularly have any plans to be. The chorus lyric and chorus music were from that era. He said he always thought that there was something in it, but it never really went anywhere. We batted around that idea. He wanted to write a new verse, I talked him into writing a new middle eight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got his own little studio setup and he put that little drum machine in the intro just to keep him in time. I loved the way it sounded with that shonky acoustic guitar. The idea was for it to start quite lo-fi and then build into the full band thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main track was recorded at Abbey Road during the main session, but my health took another knock so I was at the ICU with some pipes sticking out of my neck. Essentially, we ended up finishing it off with me on a studio laptop in the hospital still. I was mixing and rearranging it in the hospital, which isn\u2019t the way we normally work. It\u2019s a dangerous territory with the white saviour complex and all of that, so I had to talk him into doing it. I asked him to write a song, and he\u2019s so gung-ho and creative that he turned something around in a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamon\u2019s main stipulation was that he wanted it to be a big collaboration. CREDIT: Lawrence Watson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe put together a supergroup of musicians: people like <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/johnny-marr\">Johnny Marr<\/a>, Ade [Utley, drummer] from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/portishad\">Portishead<\/a>, the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ezra-collective\">Ezra [Collective<\/a>] guys \u2013 they were all really up for it as soon as we approached them. Abbey Road Studio Two is this historic room, so it was quite easy to get people to turn up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the centre-piece of the record in a lot of ways and really sums up the spirit that went into it. We were expecting them to do a cover but they wanted to do a new song, and they knocked it out of the park. I love the song they made. It ticks a lot of my personal taste boxes: weird, skronky folk-rock stuff. They\u2019re brilliant musicians, and they turned up and nailed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Black Country, New Road - HELP(2) Recording Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5yafhIFVP_U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>The Last Dinner Party \u2013 \u2018Let\u2019s Do It Again!\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI knew of this track because I was going to make their second record [<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/the-last-dinner-party-from-the-pyre-review-3899789\">\u2018From The Pyre\u2019<\/a>], but obviously my illness made it impossible for me to be a part of it. It was a demo floating around for that record, and I thought that song was really good. I\u2019m surprised it didn\u2019t go on the record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we approached them about it, they suggested that track. It\u2019s just a really fun, glammy, camp thing that they do really well \u2013 leaning into the whole Spiders From Mars aspect of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Last Dinner Party \u2013 Let\u2019s Do It Again! (Visualiser) \u2013 HELP(2)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gM1Uo4RoElY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Beth Gibbons \u2013 \u2018Sunday Morning\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThis was something that just me and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/beth-gibbons\">Beth<\/a> did in my home studio. It had been around for a while. I was thinking about Portishead as they were on the first record, but that wasn\u2019t able to happen for whatever reason. One day, Beth was talking about this song and I threw over some <em>One Flew Over The Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/em> instrumental bits, and Beth sang that vocal first time. It\u2019s one of my favourite songs on this record. I\u2019m a huge <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/velvet-underground\">Velvet Underground<\/a> fan so there\u2019s something quite sacrilegious to cover a song like that, but there\u2019s something about Beth\u2019s delivery that I found really beautiful and heartbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mixed it and finished it off \u2013 already feeling quite emotional from the year that I\u2019d been having \u2013 but I kept stopping it because I was just in bits while listening to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Arooj Aftab &amp; Beck \u2013 \u2018Lilac Wine\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThat came through quite late. I\u2019m a huge fan of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/arooj-aftab\">Arooj<\/a> and we definitely wanted some voices from the Middle East on there. She\u2019s an incredible artist and her voice is stunning. Quite late on in the process, she somehow hooked up with Beck and that was recorded by his people in LA. I\u2019m a huge <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/nina-simone\">Nina Simone<\/a> fan, and they\u2019ve done a great version of this song.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>King Krule \u2013 \u2018The 343 Loop\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI love King Krule. We were maybe expecting more of a song because I love his voice, but we thought this was a nice way to transition from more of the song-y stuff into a different zone. It\u2019s almost like an interlude. I approached them quite early on but their process is often quite painfully slow, so I wasn\u2019t expecting anything to come of it for a while. Then, weirdly, it was probably one of the first tracks that got delivered once Martin had found the track to cover. I love it when people really flip a cover version to make it feel like their own track. He sent me something within a couple of weeks, well before the Abbey Road sessions, so we had that early doors. I think it\u2019s a really interesting version.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have a pretty regular three or four-year cycle, so I\u2019m pretty sure Martin is writing. Whether or not that materialises sooner rather than later, who knows?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ezra Collective &amp; Greentea Peng \u2013 \u2018Helicopters\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEzra were someone that we were keen to be a part of it because they\u2019re such a vibrant part of the British music scene. It was their idea to get <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/greentea-peng\">Greentea Peng<\/a> involved. I love the feel of it and the dubbiness. He knew that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/arlo-parks-announces-new-album-ambiguous-desire-with-nocturnal-single-2sided-i-danced-more-than-ever-as-i-made-this-record-3922981\">she was working on new material<\/a>, but this song didn\u2019t fit on<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/arlo-parks\"> Arlo<\/a>\u2018s album for whatever reason and seemed to fit better on this record.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>English Teacher &amp; Graham Coxon \u2013 \u2018Parasite\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWe were talking to the English Teacher a lot about doing a cover version originally, but they had a few tracks from working on new material. They felt like this one could fit great on here. They\u2019re big fans of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/graham-coxon\">Graham [Coxon]<\/a> and we were keen to get him involved in a few different places.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe brings his weird skronky noise like only he can. It\u2019s really nice to hear Lily [Fontaine, frontwoman] singing a bit more. She\u2019s got such a great voice. From what I\u2019ve heard of their new material, they\u2019re heading in a great direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"English Teacher &amp; Graham Coxon - HELP(2) Recording Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xw8Ix5SVEzA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Beabadoobee \u2013 \u2018Say Yes\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cToby hooked this one up. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/elliott-smith\">Elliott Smith<\/a> is a hero to most, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists-beabadoobee\">Beabadoobee <\/a>has a particular connection to this song. We talked about a few different ideas for cover versions; there were others on the cards, then at the last minute she flipped to doing this Elliott Smith song. She was so happy, and she\u2019s done a great version of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"beabadoobee - HELP(2) Recording Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S169I_Vo_tk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Big Thief \u2013 \u2018Relive, Redie\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a big fan of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/big-thief\">Big Thief<\/a>, and we were trying to open it up beyond Britain-based artists. They were keen to be part of it, so did a lot of the work with their usual crew. I love the track. It fits in so perfectly with the mood of the record.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fontaines D.C. \u2013 \u2018Black Boys On Mopeds\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThis was another last-minute one. Fontaines were either going to do their own track or one of a few different covers. They settled on this track and worked it out the night before they came into Abbey Road. Sinead [O\u2019Connor] was on the first \u2018Help\u2019 record and was such an icon of Irish music. A lot of her lyrics and the things she stood for seem to be pretty relevant to what\u2019s happening now, unfortunately. This seemed very apt and fitting as the cover they chose. They did a great version, and I love all the weird Velvet Underground-y strings. They brought a bit of gravitas to it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a song about children, and that\u2019s been a theme throughout the whole thing. It was all filmed by Jonathan Glazer, and he had the idea to basically not have any adult camera people. Every studio had children running around with Handycams. When I approached him, it was before the Geese record [<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/geese-getting-killed-review-3892821\">\u2018Getting Killed\u2019<\/a>] came out. I worked on the previous one [<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/geese-3d-country-review-cowboy-nudes-album-radar-3459011\">\u20183D Country\u2019<\/a>] and couldn\u2019t work on this one for obvious reasons. Now, Cameron has been catapulted and seems to be absolutely everywhere, so I was quite worried that he wouldn\u2019t be able to do something and turn it around, but he was still very keen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is one of my favourite tracks on there, and feels a little different to what people might expect from him at the moment. To me, it feels almost like a sort of Laurie Anderson arty New York track, but the lyrics are very heavy, and there\u2019s a darkness to the whole thing that\u2019s very apt to the moment. One of the first things they ever did was a feature on a very old <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/simian-mobile-disco\">Simian Mobile Disco<\/a> record that I made. I love their wildness, their energy, and I was very happy they could turn something in. The track is very them and not something you could have predicted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the sequencing, it makes a great segue out of the darkness of the Cameron track into the energy of the Pulp track.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Young Fathers - HELP(2) Recording Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nCTgWAffV0c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Pulp \u2013 \u2018Begging for Change\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Begging For Change\u2019 nearly made it onto Pulp\u2019s last record, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/pulp-more-album-review-jarvis-cocker-3866730\">\u2018More\u2019<\/a>, but I actually think that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/jarvis-cocker\">Jarvis [Cocker<\/a>, frontman] has had that track around for years. He could never finish the lyrics. I called him up about being a part of this, and he immediately suggested trying to finish that off. Some of the track is from the \u2018More\u2019 sessions, and then they took it into Abbey Road and overdubbed certain things like choirs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty insistent and heavy thing from them. With that lyric, it seemed to fit like a glove. I think Jarvis is still living in this record. We had a great time making \u2018More\u2019 and it came about quite quickly, but it had been brewing for a while. Jarvis is pretty prolific, but I\u2019m sure there\u2019s a fair amount of fermenting to do before there\u2019s another album ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pulp \u2013 Begging for Change (Visualiser) \u2013 HELP(2)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JGF0tyQ9C8k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Sampha \u2013 \u2018Naboo\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThis one also came in fairly late. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sampha\">Sampha<\/a> is super talented and a very important voice in British music. This is something he did remotely in his own studio. There was a hectic period towards the end where there were a lot of different tracks coming in at the last minute, and this was almost the last one through the gates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the vibe and percussion of this one, and the feel that it\u2019s very much him.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wet Leg \u2013 \u2018Obvious\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThere were a few different discussions about what track would make it on the record. As far as I\u2019m aware, \u2018Obvious\u2019 is a fairly old song that nearly made it onto their first album <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/wet-leg-wet-leg-review-radar-3196323\">[\u2018Wet Leg\u2019<\/a>]. They\u2019d played it live but it never made it as a recording. Eventually, they managed to get a version they were happy with, and it\u2019s perhaps a different vibe to what you might expect from them. It\u2019s a beautiful track.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"BRITs 2026: Wet Leg on taking part on War Child\u2019s \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album and huge plans for 2026\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/76mf0_aHjIo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Foals \u2013 \u2018When The War Is Finally Done\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cSimilarly to the Monkeys, it\u2019s been quite a while since <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/foals\">Foals<\/a> have done something [since 2022\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/foals-life-is-yours-album-review-3247671\">\u2018Life Is Yours\u2019<\/a>]. I\u2019m still very much in touch with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/yannis-philippakis\">Yannis [Philippakis<\/a>, frontman], and Toby has a long relationship with them through Transgressive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe song has a lyric that really deals with war and the mood seemed to be relevant to this record, so it was almost a case of us just asking him to finish it off for this. It\u2019s not \u2018big moshpit Foals\u2019; the lyric is pretty heavy and the song is much more melancholic. It\u2019s a\u00a0 beautiful and pretty sad reflection on the state of the world. I\u2019ve been a fan of Natasha [Khan] for a long time. This song is a very affecting and dramatic lyric that sums up a lot of the mood of the record. She ends the track with the lyric, \u2018<em>They\u2019re all our babies<\/em>\u2019. When you have children of your own and see kids in Sudan, the Congo [and] Gaza, you just see your own children in the eyes of other kids. It\u2019s heartbreaking, and she sums that up brilliantly.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Anna Calvi, Ellie Rowsell, Nil\u00fcfer Yanya &amp; Dove Ellis \u2013 \u2018Sunday Light\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI love <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/anna-calvi\">Anna<\/a>\u2019s music. She delivered this song in demo form and we instantly loved it. It was down to her \u2013 she wanted multiple voices and we were all pushing the spirit of collaboration. It was just a case of seeing who else wanted to come down and do some wailing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very heavy, mournful, almost funeral march of a song, but it\u2019s really beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Olivia Rodrigo \u2013 \u2018The Book Of Love\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWe were approaching all sorts of different artists to broaden out to US artists and pop artists, too. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/olivia-rodrigo-speaks-out-on-gaza-no-child-not-in-israel-not-in-palestine-should-have-to-go-through-these-atrocities-3878179\">Olivia has been fairly outspoken on political issues<\/a> and always wears her heart on her sleeve. We talked to her about being part of it, and she came up with the idea of this cover version. I really love this song and was happily surprised that she suggested it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked out an arrangement, and I managed to talk her into recording what we were calling \u2018a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/frank-sinatra\">Sinatra<\/a>-style\u2019 live vocal recording with a string section in Abbey Road. Graham Coxon is playing guitar, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ed-harcourt\">Ed Harcourt<\/a> is playing piano, and it\u2019s just a very natural, almost old-school recording.<\/p>\n<p>She turned up and nailed it, take after take. She delivered like an absolute pro and was totally lovely about the whole thing. The weirdness for me was that we set up the session and I ended up back in hospital. I was having a blood transfusion during the recording, but because of Zoom I could hear what was going on through the desk and talk to everyone through their headphones. Then they sent me the parts and I mixed it. It was quite a bizarre experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really beautiful book-end to the record, really \u2013 ending on a message of love, essentially.
