Sara Shahverdi<\/a>, the protagonist of Iranian Oscar-nominated documentary Cutting Through Rocks<\/a>, will not make it to the Academy Awards ceremony on March 15, the filmmakers have announced.<\/p>\n

Co-directors of Sara Khaki<\/a> and Mohammadreza Eyni<\/a> said in a social media post they had been hoping to get Shahverdi to L.A. but that the combination of the U.S. visa ban for people from Iran and the current situation in their country had made it impossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the U.S. travel ban, along with the many ongoing circumstances in Iran, Sara Shahverdi is not able to be present at the Oscars. We truly hoped to be together after eight years of working on this film side by side, but unfortunately, that won\u2019t be possible,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n
