He plays a middle school science teacher who is sent into space as the world comes to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Gosling spoke about the film while sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4Das7Xc-daI\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4Das7Xc-daI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;The Tonight Show&#8221; <\/a>on Thursday, March 5, in front of an audience intentionally full of educators. Toward the end of the interview, he switched gears and asked the crowd to sing &#8220;Happy Birthday&#8221; as a surprise to Mendes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have no idea how much she loves teachers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;She has her hall monitor sash still from when she was a kid. And I just wanted to say thank you to you guys.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To kick things up a notch, a North Bergen, New Jersey, high school marching band played the birthday song to the &#8220;Hitch&#8221; actress. They also held a banner that said &#8220;Happy Birthday Eva!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She kissed Gosling after the serenade.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\">Gosling and Mendes keep their marriage and family life private<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;The Tonight Show&#8221; extravaganza is a rare public sighting for the couple.
