For the first time since 1989, the BBC has announced that it
\nwill not air the
\nCommonwealth Day service<\/a> live from Westminster Abbey.<\/p>\n

Instead, an episode of Escape to the Country<\/em> will air
\nin the time slot. The BBC has said that funding challenges led to
\nthe decision. Since 1989, the BBC has only skipped one airing of
\nthe Commonwealth Day service: in 2021, when the event was cancelled
\ndue to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

\nBBC spokesperson said, \u201cOur decision not to broadcast the
\nCommonwealth Day Ceremony in the same way we\u2019ve done in previous
\nyears reflects the difficult choices we have to make in light of
\nour funding challenges. We can confirm BBC News plans to cover the
\nservice across its platforms, including the BBC One bulletins and
\nrolling news channel.\u201d<\/em><\/h5>\n

King Charles and Queen Camilla
\nwill be joined by<\/a> The Prince and Princess of Wales, The
\nPrincess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and The Duke and
\nDuchess of Gloucester at Monday\u2019s ceremony, which is themed around
\ncollaboration.<\/p>\n

According to Buckingham Palace, the Commonwealth Day ceremony
\nwill echo the theme of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of
\nGovernment Meetings in Antigua and Barbuda this November,
\n\u2018Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous
\nCommonwealth.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Commonwealth Day service will feature the premiere
\nperformance of the Commonwealth Symphony; a dance by the Royal
\nBallet School and Sapnay Entertainments which combines ballet and
\nBollywood dance; a Scottish Ceilidh band; and the Melodians Steel
\nDrum Orchestra. Speakers include Geri Halliwell-Horner, who will
\ndeliver an address, Oti Mabuse, who will deliver a reflection, and
\nSelina Tusitala Marsh, the Commonwealth Poet Laureate, who will
\nread a poem.<\/p>\n
