Harry Styles<\/a> made an unexpected appearance<\/a> on Saturday Night Live<\/em> a week before his scheduled return as host<\/a> and musical guest.<\/p>\n The pop star briefly showed up during Ryan Gosling\u2019s opening monologue on the March 7 episode of NBC\u2019s long-running sketch show, sending the studio audience into a frenzy when cameras revealed him sitting in the crowd.<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n Gosling quickly incorporated the moment into the bit, jokingly panicking that Styles\u2019 presence was distracting the audience from his monologue plans.<\/p>\n \u201cIs that Harry Styles?\u201d Gosling asked after noticing the singer in the crowd. When the camera cut to Styles, the audience erupted into cheers as the former One Direction member casually waved from his seat.<\/p>\n When Gosling asked why he was there, Styles explained he had simply stopped by to watch ahead of his own hosting gig the following week.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, I\u2019m hosting next week, and it\u2019s been a while,\u201d Styles said during the segment. \u201cSo I just wanted to watch and get a feel for it.\u201d<\/p>\n The sketch leaned into the idea that Styles\u2019 effortless cool was overshadowing Gosling\u2019s monologue. At one point, the host joked that Styles\u2019 presence was throwing him off track as he tried to introduce a musical number tied to his upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cYour coolness is becoming a bit of an issue,\u201d Gosling told the singer as the camera repeatedly cut back to him in the audience.<\/p>\n The gag escalated as the show displayed a split-screen of the two stars, with Gosling pleading for the camera to stop cutting to Styles.
