\u201cI was about to graduate and I didn\u2019t know what to do. I got scared, so I got on my knees and I said, \u2018Give me a sign of what I should do for the rest of my life,\u2019 and days later Michael Jackson passed [June 25, 2009] at the young age of 50.\u201d<\/p>\n
Suddenly Jackson was back in the headlines.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe day he passed away he was everywhere again,\u201d Reeves said. \u201cIt brought back a flood of memories, and I said to myself, \u2018This is what I would like to do for the rest of my life \u2014 be a great entertainer.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Reeves said motivation also came from his aunt Dawn.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe would come into the house and go back-and-forth with her shoulders and say, \u2018Go Mitri, Go Mitri.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s the reason why I\u2019m an entertainer today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bethany Young connected with Reeves on social media and has developed a lasting friendship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI first learned about him [Dimitri] on TikTok in one of his videos that went viral,\u201d Young said. \u201cHis career has changed and so many people know him and adore him, but he\u2019s never changed as a person, and I find that so telling and so important. His impact has been something I can\u2019t really explain.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis music brings people together. When I met him, he was so kind-hearted and you could see how much he loved what he was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Four years ago in Jackson, Mississippi, Brittany Dodd said Reeves stole her heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was my first time seeing and meeting him,\u201d Dodd said. \u201cWhen I hear Dimitri, love comes to mind. He will leave \u2018love\u2019 as his legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n
